Likely scenario as this engine has flat top pistons and from what the barn has told me '37 should have domed pistons. A lot can happen in 80+ years.
Leon, It is my understanding bonderizing is a form of a phosphating process or parkerizing.
H S B, I am assuming this might be from a rebuild at some point in its life but this block also appears to be a stock bore with tin sleeves. 21 stud 37 or early '38. Does anyone have any info on these markings?
Thank you- Douglas
Thanks for that info, Jack. It does appear to be a difficult size to find. Not boring this out to its limit also seems like a good idea even with the advance of the 4th ring with the 8ba. I will call some piston manufacturers and see what a custom set runs these days.
Thanks Terry. Jack, it will be going into a fenderless model A coupe. It appears to be a standard bore with some tin sleeves currently. Maybe i can push it out to an 8BA standard piston size and shave a Stock '37 head down. I will have to see what pistons are available.
thanks for that info Terry & jack
looking on Vanpelts site they give two different compression ratios for '37 aluminum vs CI Is this just a CC Head difference or are different pistons used? Would a Domed '37 piston work with a '36 head with clearancing?

I have recently acquired a '37 short block with flat top pistons and have been looking for a set of heads. That search has brought me to flat top or domed heads but I can not seem to figure out if that was based on year or did they have both as a option on all the years? Did the compression stay...
Thanks Dobie for that! the first photo shows it on lift and the 2nd shows it on base circle. I have sent a check out to Ahshoe for the rail rockers and i will check the length of the pushrods tonight.
looking at the side by side shot of those rockers it seems the rail style has a greater distance from pivot to valve tip, which would make my problem worse. Maybe i will order one rocker just to make sure before buying a set. thanks for the link!
i am assembling a customers basket case '36 ford truck that had this rebuilt 289 with it. i was getting ready to bench run the motor and wanted to make sure the valves were adjusted correctly when i noticed the rockers hanging off the tip of the valve. Now by the stick out of the valve past the...
