    Upolstry "Knowlege" help

When I got my bench seat done in the pick up I got 4 yds of broadcloth wool and had at least 2 yards leftover. So I would roughly figure 8 yards for the front and back seats. And another 6 yards for the headliner. The door panels you'd probably have enough leftover to use for them. But to be...

'52 Ford F1: whatsitfor and heater question

Thanks Wayne , yeah I kinda thought so! What year was that offered? Before 1950 when they started with the roundish face fronts of the magic air units?

'52 Ford F1: whatsitfor and heater question

As I said it’s the fresh air tubes that bring outside air in from the front grille to the cab. That’s it! That’s the “magic” in magic air.

'52 Ford F1: whatsitfor and heater question

The heater control switch isn’t factory correct but is period correct. I’m uncertain about that heater as you said it’s a recirculating type not the magic air one at least not from 52. The only difference is no fresh air tubes over the front passenger wheel.

'52 Ford F1: whatsitfor and heater question

The 4 dimples on top of the dash are; 2 for installation the electric wipers. Then the other two lower ones and closer together are are actually in all cabs and are only for the larger trucks they are for air brake guage believe it or not.

    '52 F1 hood

Im also 5'11" and own the same truck. Although I dont do a ton of work on mine I do find even routine cleaning and maintenance difficult to access in this truck. From your pics looks about right but i can measure it at some point if someone else doesnt already do that. But my mechanic whose a...

    Unusual V8 gear shift knob

Are these knobs a 3/8"- 24 thread or something else? Also weren't the originals molded opposite of this? The V-8 was proud of the knobs surface. Here this one appears like it's carved out/molded out of the negative space - meaning like an engraving below the surface of the knob. I have no idea...

    49 F1 Flathead 6

    Varnishing Woodie

I would recommend using a traditional one part marine varnish my favorite is Epifanes. These types of coating are breathable. The wood can breather through them no problem. But if you like as you build up your varnish system by first applying diluted coats with their quality thinner in...

    8BA paint color

Chucks Trucks in CT now makes the correct red color for Truck engines 48-51. The common red color you see is too bright. His is a darker shade and it looks beautiful on an engine.

Shout out to Steve Blancard ndnchf

Steve Blancard is the best at what he does. I'm really glad I found him! He rebuilt 4 generators for me. Each one had a different set of issues ...fresh off a "professional rebuilder's" bench, and he thoroughly documented and explained each problem and solution and every detail. I learned a lot.

    Alemite grease gun

Some were nickel plated (shiner) and some were cadmium plated almost a chalky finish to it (dull finish). Different part numbers but used interchangeably. This all according to Lyn Stacey. I remember him describing this and I bought both variations of the guns for my 52 truck tool kit.

    Mercury Green

Bill Hirsch lists a lot of Mercury variations of the name Green. But there is also a "Mercury Green". Too bad they dont show any colors. I know when i went to their warehouse in Newark they had a paint samples there. My engine, a 52 truck engine, I used this enamel I really like it brushes...

    '35 cigar lighter short/falure?

I would put in an in-line buss type fuse on it. I'm not sure if they came with them or not originally. I had something similar happen to my engine compartment light accessory years ago. I bought some older type inline ones on e-bay that look period correct. Looking at your car I think you'd...

Who rebuilds 1949 Flathead V8 distributors

Correct is the fillister head screw. Which has a lot of metal on the head that doesn’t get stripped easily. Makes adjustments easier too. The distributors DID have both star washers, and the fillister head slotted screws. I changed mine out and it works very well. Edit: Just confirming my...

    battery disconnect switch

I used a marine grade Cole-Hersee Heavy Duty disconnect switch. Which meant its all brass. It fit neatly in one of the existing holes of the battery support brace. Which meant it’s a short run to the solenoid and the extra cable hides nicely appearing to be the same cable. No holes needed to...

Who rebuilds 1949 Flathead V8 distributors

I would NOT use or recommend Lee Johnson. He rebuilt two ford distributors for my 8ba 1.5 years ago. The points came out of adjustment because he didn’t put star lock washers on the set screws not to mention he used the incorrect slotted screw type. When I politely told him about this he was...

How many of you do your own work?

I’m fairly new to antique cars , since 2019. This is my first and probably my only. 1952 F1. So this will be a different take. I really try not to do anything if I can help it. But somehow I’m always busy or have been busy picking parts up out of state, going to the chrome...
