I have an 8CM,,,,1949 Mercury engine,,,,,,mine came with the stamped cover . My engine seemed to never been apart,,,other than having a valve job done to it . The insides were in excellent condition and only needs a slight bore to clean up the cylinders .

Those gears look to be in excellent condition,,,,I would use them . The housing opening will work great,,,,you opened it a fair amount,,,,it should aid the flow . 8BA is an excellent pump,,,,,,Motors Manual has all the clearance specs for the pump in them . And if you use the 8BA,,,,,you can remove the pressure relief in the front of the engine. Those factory pumps were built to last,,,,mine had the clearance on most dimensions in the middle of the spec...

Sounds like the idler drive gear on rear is installed wrong direction . That’s a real problem to fix if that’s the case . Or,,,it could be the drive gear on the rear of camshaft ? Tommy

70 pounds of spring pressure sounds too low for a blown application . That amount of boost will force past the valves at 70 pounds ,,,,,at least for the intakes . Tommy
