with a test lite on the side of the coil to the pop out switch, crank the engine the lite should blink. if steady and you have power at the points open, close points and the lite should go off post results. scotty

sounds as if you have an internal short in the coil decreasing the resistance thus allowing more amps to flow thru to the points. scotty

ww2 jeeps had a pvc system. i run one on my A using a 2000 pinto oil filler cap and pcv,drilled the valve side plate to drop a hose down for a road draft tube. had to richen the carb some. no more rusty dist or drive. Scotty

if the matching gear is in constant mesh, ie shift low to rev, and the gear does not move it is 2nd gear. been a long time since i worked on one. complete early boxes should be pretty reasonable. lol scotty

steve, I run 215 70 r 16 0n 35 rims with no tubes with no leaks, f1 steering gear, pitman arm shortened 1 inch moving drives great. Scotty

you say the fuel bowl is full. this does not mean there is fuel available to the carb. when it quits pull the line at the carb and check the flow. the inlet and outlet are in the same plane so the bowl remains full. lol Scotty

timing gear covers are not the same. the pin on the a is top dead center. the pin on the b is 19 degrees b/4 top dead center. the advance curves were different for the two engines a shot in the dark, but should be checked. lol Scotty

field to armature= full output, more rpm= higher output. lol. Scotty

on the model a the stub on the main drive gear sometimes is too long bottoming into the crank. cure shorten it. Scotty

no one opens circuit the other closes it (to give you more dwell) Scotty

ever try 2 hardwood or steel pieces thick enough to support the shackles in a horizontal position? frame on jack stands drop axle, install pieces raise axle to free shackles, has worked for me for many years. lol Scotty
