Is my axle to long? 1934 banjo

The lash is good. Everything about the rear end seems great... except the axles seem to be sticking out to far.

Is my axle to long? 1934 banjo

Also I don’t think it was a hot rod. The parts still in tacked had not been modified. all of the hardware holding the rear end in had been there for a while. It took some WD40 and a little heat to get it all loose.

Is my axle to long? 1934 banjo

I am working on a 1934 rear end and the axle shaft sticks out 5” from the end of the housing. The rear hub won’t go on deep enough for the bearing to sit on the housing. Am I overlooking something or do you suppose this rear end has the wrong axles in it?
