    How Fast

Suspect most of us drive our rides around town at about 45 MPH max which seems to be the sweet spot. The question for the cross country travelers is what is the maximum recommended sustained speed on highway driving given the limitations of the non-pressurized engine lubrication system. Back...

    Ford Winter Estate

The Ford/Edison winter estates in Fort Meyers opened today after a brief clean up suggesting storm damage was only minor. Nice place to visit if down that way. https://www.edisonfordwinterestates.org/

    Fuel Gauge Install

Getting ready to change out the float but not sure of the best route on the gasket upon the reinstall. Is it best to apply Permatex or another sealer or just install the gasket dry ? Also, how many brass rings should be used ? Welcome input. Thanx.

    Carpet

Looking for original style front and rear carpet for my 31 Tudor. Seems to be much strife in the carpet biz at the moment. Any good reliable sources still in operation ? Welcome recommendations.

    Gas Gauge

The gauge in my 31 has given up the ghost. Continually reads "0". Suspect the float is now floatless. I pulled up the float with a hooked wire and it just sunk back to 0. Welcome some incite on making the fix. Is it just a matter of using the special tool to pull the outter ring, removing...

    Florida - Big Winds A'Comin

All us Florida types are watching the potential track of Storm Ian vey closely. I am on the left edge of the cone and taking precautions and preparations very seriously. Any other folks in the cone ? We should have a few stories by Friday or so. FL Panhandle

    Carpet Caper

Thinking about replacing the old rubber mats in the 31 Tudor with carpet. Welcome recommendations and insight on color, material, and a good source. Should there be an underlayment (like the old mat) or does the carpet go directly on the wooden floorboards ? Thanx

    Car of $10 Bill

The car on the old $10 bill has always been a little special for old car buffs. It is offically refered to as a composite of cars at the time when the plate was engraved in 1927. The question becomes what car does it most resemble. Some say a Hupmobile based on the front bumper appearance...

    2-3 Shift Point Speed

Shifting the old 31 Tudor from first to second can be done at a very slow speed with no problem. My question is the second to third shift. My engine lugs if I shift much below 30mph which makes me feel like I am winding it out in second higher than should be necessary. Sort of feels like I...

    Happy Halloween

Model A cars and trucks seem to be a great basis for creative holiday displays. As we begin the Holiday Season with Halloween welcome your pictures showing seasonal displays so we can pirate some good ideas.

    Do YOU single-clutch ?

Of all the quirky Model A traits, shifting must be number one. Like most, I double-clutch on upshifts. Some have mastered single-clutching on the upshifts. How do you do that ? Also wondering about downshifting when turning corners. Downshifting to second of course requires raising the rpm...

    Stainless Steel Model A

Just read about the stainless steel cars made by Ford and Allegheny Technologies. Along with a Thunderbird, Lincoln, and 1936 Ford, a total of six 1931 Model As were also made. Of the six, one is known to have survived and photos do exist. It was up for sale at one time for something like...

    Unleaded Gas

When leaded gas was banned cars at the time began to suffer valve/seat erosion. The fix for the classics at the time was rebuilding engines with stainless valves and hardened seats. Seems the problem of unleaded gas is no longer a problem with older vehicles - just wondering why. Is there now...

    Oil Pressure - OK

Have a fear of driving the old Henry not realizing that I may have no oil pressure. The typical answer would be to install an oil pressure gauge which would provide an easy check and also gives some indication of the health of the lube system and state of the bearings. As a minimum, I would...

    Cold Weather Shifting

After a spell of wind chill in the 50s down here, I noticed no amount of double clutching or rpm modulation would prevent gears grinding until the trans warmed up. Is this typical for running As up north during serious cold ? If so, what is a good shifting technique until the trans limbers up...

    Australia Fires

Watching the news and thinking about our friends down under. Remarkable damage and loss of life. Hope it ends soon, and be safe until than.

    Shackle Bore Alignment

Just installed a new rear spring while unsprung. Looks like the spring and perch bores will not align for the insertion of the shackle shafts unless the spring is fully spread with a full length spreader and the axle is lifted to the natural ride height. Don't think I can safely do the job...

    U Joint Housing

Getting ready to reinstall the rear axle but feel intimidated by that erector set U Joint housing. Between the main shell, retention halves, gaskets, felt strips, and FAM bracket, there must be a proper assembly procedure to minimize the possibility of grease/oil leaks. Welcome any recommendations.
