Differences between ‘30 & ‘31 Vicky Okay you experts are there any visual cue differences between the (late) ‘30 and the ‘31 Vickies? What about running model changes between the two? I know the Steelback and Leatherback offerings, but are there other model changes as well? Bill

Like picking at a scab: let's discuss 'oil'

I know, I know, I've said it before, "like hollering 'SQUIRREL' at the National Dog Show, the discussion of oil in the Model "A" but now I'm having that same friendly discussion with a friend. Someone here made me believe that Mobil 1 was the way to go. Remembering that the P.O. said that...

Thinking of using clay bar then waxing. Which brand do you use?

Thinking of getting out the clay bar and spending an afternoon cleaning up Miss Vicky. Later I will get ambitious and give her a wax job. Which brand do you fancy? Leatherback top: What product should I use to clean and seal? Bill

    CB radio question

[First off, I promise myself I will never, ever attempt to type in a (lengthy) thread again using my cell phone!! lol I was almost finished and the system 'burped' and I lost everything! Now on my desktop.] My '31 Vicky is a 6 volt positive ground system. I can install a (modern) 12 volt CB...

    CB antenna mount

Looking for a CB antenna mount that will fit on my '31 Vicky. Have any of you discovered one that mounts well on an A's bumper? I'm not finding one that looks like it will work. I'm planning on mounting a Firestick on this mount. Not wanting to do a lot of fabrication. Bill

Favorable ending to "Avoided Possible Catastrophe "

Uncovered the reason for the (major) gasoline leak! Cork gasket was not perfectly cut by the die. It was rather oval in shape and insufficient in diameter to be placed onto tank opening without the use of some permatex. Once removed it was obvious that the mark made by large ring was too...

    Avoided possible catastrophe

New seats and re-styled shifter FINALLY back in Miss Vicky. I had forgotten that gas gauge was replaced about 2 months ago. Filled her up and went to get in only to discover a waterfall of gas flowing from the gas gauge❗Luckily, they had a bucket but it was one of those big jobs -- 4-5 gallons...

    Inclusions for touring emergencies

Just wondering what you long-time Model A aficionados include in your on-the-road emergency breakdown kits (parts and tools). Give me an idea! Bill Wondering in my Wandering

    Recommendations for ignition key replacement

The Vicky has a pop out ignition, but only 1 well, well worn key. Do you guys have recommendations for someone who can cut an original style key? Also, door lock won't hardly turn -- even after graphite squirted into lock. (Has separate key, doesn't work with ignition key) Recommendations?

    Firestone or Goodyear??

Firestone or Goodyear, which is YOUR preference? Why or why not? Considering that I'll be sinking better than a grand for tires, tubes and shipping I wanted to hear what you experts think.

Chapter 2: "YIKES! Out of the clear blue, Vicky started leaking"

Could NOT locate leak. Finally decided to give P.O. a telephone call and see what light HE could shed on this situation. He knew EXACTLY what was wrong: weeping from head. He removed the head from the newly rebuilt engine and changed it with a Braumfield (sp?) head. He put on a new copper...

YIKES! Out of the clear blue, Vicky started leaking from radiator!

I haven't driven the Vicky for a few days -- (back's been killing me!) and went into garage last night to work on her horn. Discovered a good sized "puddle" under her, stuck my finger in it and it would appear to be engine coolant. Got under as best as I could and see a drop at a time dripping...

    P.O. Warned me about smell . . .

Did a search and couldn't find this one. When tank filled to FULL the stink of gas fumes will practically drive a guy out of the car! P.O. said he'd only fill to 3/4 tank. While this works great around town, not so well when touring! Solution??? Bill

Specific interchangeable seats for Vicky sought

Any of you "experts " know specifically which car seats (buckets or split bench)will "transplant " into a '31 Vicky? I have been told Early Mustang seats will fit. I have owned 3 different early Mustangs and know that they are too wide. In another post I mentioned the name of a business that...

Albuquerque is 5,280 feet above sea level. What position for "spark" and lean/rich setting for carburetor. I was told that Jack Bahm's instructions are appropriate for sea level. If so, procedure for 5,280 feet? Bill

Search for "oil" brings no hits?!

I did a search for oil to learn what you all have decided is the best oil to use in the A -- nothing! Now that I find hard to believe! I use Valvoline Racing Oil (has zinc) in my Mustangs. Should one use a multi-weight oil, is zinc necessary for Model A valves, or should I use a straight...

Newbie pulled the trigger! '31 Vicky now in my driveway!

I did it!! Now the proud owner of a "brand new" '31 Vicky Leatherback! Purchased in Tucson now residing in Albuquerque, NM. PO owned it for 25 years. A few items stick out. The ignition switch does not function. Turn on (off?) the battery kill switch and depress the starter and away she goes...

Know of a good Model A mechanic in Tucson?

Newbie to A's has found a prospective Vicky in Tucson. I would appreciate the name (recommendation) of a mechanic in Tucson who could evaluate the overall condition of this car. I know Mustangs but zero about an A! I feel a disinterested 3rd party (knowledgeable about A's) would be the best...
