    cooling system flush

When I built my engine 6-7 years ago, I had the block dipped and cleaned really well, and had the original four-row radiator repaired, cleaned, and flow tested. I changed the coolant a couple of times since then and I'm in the process of doing it again. I've used distilled water/antifreeze each...

    lost password

I've been logged in on this site for years. I've lost track of my password. Now I fear if I get logged out and can't get back in. I'm afraid to log out to try some of my old passwords in fear it doesn't work. I need my password in order to change it to something I know. Is there a work-around?

    Rear hub removal blues

One of my rear brakes on the '38 started dragging/not releasing all the way. I dedided to tackle it today since it is a little less humid. I had bought a Mitchell puller several years ago when I bought the car and used it to pull the drums and service the bearings. It worked fine then. Today I...

    Split braking system issue

My '55 Victoria has power disc/drum brakes installed by a previous owner of the car. Recently while driving I noticed the brake pedal was soft and loosing pedal height. 59A exhaust runner rust through?

I came by a 59A engine and in tearing it down I found rust scales blocking one of the rear exhaust ports when I removed the exhaust manifold. Not knowing the history of the engine, I'm wondering about the probably of rust through in that runner. The rest of the engine is visually crack free. Is...

    Voltage to points

I have a converted chevy distributor in my 8BA. After 3-4 thousand miles the contacts look rough. I filed/reset them and it's running good again. Wondering why they didn't last, I went to looking for the reason. I have a 1.8 ohm ballast feeding a flame Thrower 1.5 ohm coil. On a 12V system I...

    Distributor cap corrosion

I have a converted Chevy distributor in my 8BA. It started missing some when I rev it a little so I looked for a problem. JC Allison and Miss American 3.14

This fellow came to my mind a few days ago, wondering what ever happened to him. He posted here last year about his rare '64 Galaxie 4-dr hardtop with a Police Interceptor 390 and overdrive. This is his first post, as a way of stimulating your memory of him...

    Old door seal removal

On my '38 car, the door hinge seals have turned into a gooey tar-like mess sticking to the door. Part of the seal has hardened, too. What to use to remove the mess without damaging the paint? I've tried lacquer thinner and it doesn't seem to stay on the vertical surface long enough to help.

    Another clutch chatter thread

Noticing the recent threads on clutch chatter makes me want to post my issue but I won't interfere with the other threads. Lincoln and Mercury wheel bolt pattern

I'm looking for 2 15 x 6 wheels for my Ford 8" rear axle. I see some for a '76 Lincoln Mark IV but the bolt pattern and backspacing aren't listed. Can someone tell me if the Lincoln in those years had the Ford 4.5" bolt circle? If you know the backspacing it would be icing on the cake. Thanks Gene

    '40 brake shoe position

I'm replacing the king pins/bushings in the '38. I bought the car with the '40 hydraulic brakes on it. When I disassembled the brakes I was pleasantly surprised to find a really neat and clean installation with new shoes and smooth drum surfaces, clean bearing grease. BUT, the short shoe is on...

    mid-'50s upholstery

I usually see references to "ABC Upholstery" when talking mid-'50s Ford upholstery. When I google for them, I see many with that name all over the USA and in Canada. I would appreciate info on which one of them furnishes the upholstery for our cars. I've lost a vinyl cover for the buttons in...

    power brake booster questions

I was checking spark plugs today and the #4 and #8 plugs are showing a lean condition, very white. I've recently replaced the intake gaskets when I resealed the valve chamber cover, so I'm confident that it is OK. I do have a 7" power booster for the brakes connected to the top of the intake...
