    Car seized up

Hey everyone, Wanted to see if anyone might chime in before I started messing with anything. I have a 1941 Mercury 8 Convertible that is fully restored. Never had an issue with the car in the past. I took it out for the 1st nice weather drive about 3 weeks ago and had to have it towed home...

    Overheating questions

Took the rig out for a drive today and about 5-7 minutes in I looked down and it was all the way to H. I pulled over and waited until it got back to “normal” and drove home having to stop and wait one more time. When I got home shot the head with an inferred heat gun and it read 232. Turned out...

    Carb rebuilt byy Charlie S

Not sure how many folks here have used Charlie Schwendler for a carb rebuild or tune up but I just wanted to give him a big shout out for a great job and amazing experience. I sent him my carb with some issues, and it came back to me within two weeks. Bolted that sucker on and I could not be...

    Oil for Columbia rear end

I have a Columbia rear end and have been doing some reading about the oil to put in it. Seems there are a lot of opinions on this subject of should rear end oil be GL4 or GL 5, but wanted to know what everyone else is using. I bought this Valvoline gear oil and it looks like it's a GL 5. I did...

Hey Fellas, I have 2 questions around parts and hoped someone could get me straight please. 1). I have a 1936 ford truck and I need two front headlights for it. They have a high and low beam, and 3 prongs on the back for connector to slide into. They screw in and the trim goes over them...

    Speedo cable with Columbia overdrive

Hey Fellas, I have bumped up against an issue on my 1941 mercury convertible. The speedometer cable recently broke, it was the end at the transmission that snapped off. I ordered a new cable and it worked about 10 miles before it broke again. The issue appears to be that cables are too long...

    41 Mercury Convertible (Speedometer Cable)

I have a 41 Mercury convertible and the speedometer quit working. I went searching today and noticed the small cable that turns, inside the cable, broke at the fitting in transmission area. The cable was stuck inside the gear drive piece. Is there a new inside cable I can buy to side in and cut...

    Head bolt leakage

I have a tendency to mess with something until I break it! My 36 truck is “done” but seeps a little anti freeze out of a couple studs. It’s very minimal and I almost have to really look to find it. So far I’ve but about 75-100 miles in it in 2 years. Should they just be left alone and wipe off...

    Misery loves company

I’ve been in my shop looking for a part that I set aside so I would know where it was when I needed it. I’ve looked everywhere and had no luck. Are there any other folks out there that have to buy a 2nd part because they can’t find the perfectly good one they already own only to certainly find...

    Mercury lights

Have 2 questions around the lights on my Mercury, 12 volt. 1). Should the running lights, lights on top of the fenders, be on when my headlights are on? *Currently they come on when the switch is pulled half way out* 2). Where is the best place to buy a new head light for that car. My high...

    Headbolt

Sorry I have so many questions, this is #2 for the day! I started up the truck this morning and noticed 3 head bolts that seem to have leaked, just a little tiny bit. Of the 3 1 of them does not seem to be leaking anymore but the other 2 are. Is there a suggestion that anyone has to fix prior to...

    Engine Steady Rods

I’m doing a bit of research I’ve learned that my 36 truck would have had engine steady rods connecting the bell housing to the frame to keep it from moving. I have an 8BA in the 36 and understand those original 36 rods may not fit. Anyone have brackets that would support that and take the place...

I think I may be asking for you all to find a needle in a stack of needles but thought I'd ask anyways. It appears to be leaking fuel someone where around the base of the carb. I've looked and not been able to locate the issue. Wonder if anyone as any ideas? The car is running fantastic...

    4 post lifts

Anyone have experience with 4 post lifts? I was considering 2 different ones. One made by forward/direct lift or bendpak. The bend pack set up is going to run about 1500-1800 more then the forward. Really just wondering if the name brand is worth the extra money or if direct lift is a good one?
