oil galley plug has small hole

I am in the process of assembling a 8BA engine and when I tried to removed the front oil galley plug I couldn't get it out. No big deal, I'll get it out later. So I start to pressure wash the block and low and behold there is a small hole (.06 or so) in the plug. Would this be there to oil the...

    59ab head gaskets on 8ba?

I would like to use Cometic gaskets on our 8ba, but the standard gaskets are only available for the 59ab. Could I use the 59ab gaskets while using the 8ba heads and block? Might have to block off one hole near the front. This is a race application so I'm not worried all that much about cooling...
