    Stiff, noisy, uncomfortable ride

I have a stock very good condition driver quality 29 A. It is my first pre-1930 car. I also have a somewhat nicer stock 1937 Chevrolet that I recently brought back from a 10 year slumber. The ride, power, & overall smoothness of the Chevy beats the A hands down. Neither the Ford nor Chevy are...

    Riveting Brake Linings

I am replacing the parking brake linings on my '29 A. I bought new linings and one of those $25 riveting tools from MAC's. I have never done it before. Are there instructional videos or directions readily available? Otherwise how do you do it? I am also a little fuzzy on drilling holes in the...

    Seattle Times photo

If any fellow Ford Barners get the Seattle Times- I own the 1929 model A featured in the AUTObiography piece in this Sunday's NW autos section.

    Vacuum leak

I replaced the cracked exhaust manifold on my completely stock A. I got the new one from Synder's. When putting it back together there was about a .010-.015 discrepancy between the level of the new exhaust and old intake manifolds. (Exhaust higher than intake) I thought that the gap was small...

    Dumb Unnecessary modifications

There was a thread on here about dumb reproduction parts. The dumbest most unnecessary thing I have seen in the current MAC's "A" catalog is the $89.75 oil drain kit. You screw in a special fitting instead of the oil pan drain plug and when you want to change oil you remove the cap on this...

    Part Sources

I need a new exhaust system for my 1929 A. (Currently have a cracked exhaust manifold, fairly rusty pipes and muffler). I have mostly dealt with MAC's. I recently got a Bert's of Denver catalog. They seem to be slightly cheaper and since closer to me in Washington maybe the shipping would be...

    Autolite 1100 carb wanted

I am looking for a good mid sixties Autolite 1100 for use with the 200 CID six with an automatic transmission. The automatic trans version would have an anti-stall dashpot. This is for my 1965 Mustang. I have a good 1100 for a manual trans on there and it stalls occasionally. If I had the...

Starting an A with out a Key

It looks like it would hard to hotwire an A with out cutting into the armored cable. Does anyone know any tricks? Occasionally I have to deal with defective ignition switches and a A does not seem easy like a 1960's car to bypass. I would hate to have to be towed when all it needs is hotwiring...
