    1946 Mercury Speedometer

Looking for replacement glass for my 1946 Mercury speedometer or entire speedometer if glass is good. My car is a convertible that sat out in the desert for many years and the numbers on the speedometer glass got cooked. 46 is different from 47-8 for those of you not in the know.

    Ringing sound in engine

Lately, I have heard what can best be described as a ringing sound coming from my 59 AB engine in my 46 Mercury. It is not a chirping sound--like from a belt. It sounds kind of like high pitched bells ringing. This isn't evident at idle but always happens when engine is revved or on a load...

    1946 Mercury Convertible

Very original car. Current owner purchased in 1976. Car came from the Nevada desert near Hawthorne with 82,000 miles on the odometer. It was probably assembled at the Ford Plant in Richmond, California in late 1945 as one of the first post war cars produced. It runs and drives well. Original...

Gas Tank Sending Unit Woes - 46 Merc

In order to get the 10-32 screw holes on my new sending unit to line up with those on the tank, I had to partially re-drill 5 of the 6 holes on the mounting plate. The holes on the neoprene gasket lined up perfectly with the tank but not so the holes on the plate. Wonder how the manufacturer...

Another gas tank question for 46 Merc- color?

The new tank I purchased is painted grey. Is this the correct color? Was the original (factory) tank gray or galvanized plated or ?? I recall on a '46 Ford I once owned that the tank was under coated--but believe this was an option--something the dealers did for a modest charge.

Gas tank question - 46 Mercury

What do any of you experts suggest to use as insulation between top of new tank and floorboard? Old tank has a couple of very original (and falling apart) strips of felt-like material. Hate to try to re-use these. Thanks in advance.

    Fuel Tank Advice '46 Mercury

Plan to replace my fuel tank. Reading threads for other year cars, note there is a fitting problem for some years--new tanks slightly larger than old ones. Anybody have advice on best source for tank purchase? Assume steel tank is best (vs. plastic). And I see these aftermarket tanks come...

Difficulties installing & torquing rear drum - Help!

Hi guys & gals. Read every Ford Barn post I could find on the subject, Dick Flynn tips, etc. before starting to torque the 5/8 – 18 axle nut and found out the conventional wisdom is a final torque of 200- 225 foot pounds. Proceeded very cautiously inching the nut on and carefully measuring...

    Ford Holley 94 Carburetor question

On the top piece of this carburetor (the one that receives the fuel), there is a small rectangular hole below where the air cleaner attaches. It is at the top of the fuel chamber. I assume this is an overflow hole. I was bothered that sometimes gas spews out of this hole and might pose a fire...

Getting fuel from tank to fuel pump

Have a stock 1946 Mercury and recently installed a new steel fuel line but did not want to fatigue my starter motor pumping fuel from tank to carburetor. Went on the forum to get ideas about how to draw fuel from the tank to the fuel pump—but found none. Now, will pass along a discovery I...

After 10 years of inactivity of 59 AB on my 46 Merc with 3,000 miles on a 40 year old rebuilt engine, just installed rebuilt (Bubba) distributor, new condenser, cap, rotor, fuel pump, coil & carb. Also have fuel filters before fuel pump and between fuel pump and carb. I know I am getting good...
