    Another unbridled venture

Sorry to start this late. I've been on the road 4 days and posting on Facebook because it is easier. I'll put day 1 here and then subsequent days in comments. Also a pic of what my FB page looks like if anyone wants to look it up. Figured I'd just start posting here instead of adding another...

Fitchburg MA Wings and wheels swap meet

This Sunday will be our 50th annual meet. Hope for a good turnout after two canceled years. Always have a lot of great cars on display as well as Ford parts. Look forward to seeing you.

Early Ford V8 club of New England Swap Meet

Just a reminder of our event this Sunday. Come early and leave early or not. Good weather brings out lots of nice cars. Will be nice after two canceled years.

    Getting loada matic rebuilt

Long story short I had my distributor out yesterday and noticed the springs beat up. I took a better looking set from another distributor but I was wondering if anyone can recommend someone who can calibrate the advance curve on a loadamatic. Also when replacing a water pump make sure that...

    Oscilloscope troubleshooting

Back in the 80s a friend had a garage with one of these and it seemed handy to get a good evaluation on the engine ignition system. I never see anything about these and was wondering if anyone here ever used them to troubleshoot flathead ignitions.

Early Ford V8 Clb of New England annual swap meet

I have been getting inquiries. As of right now we are on for April 24 2022. After two canceled years we hope to bring back the great meet we have always held. You may see a few changes as we had to make it a wings and wheels event to satisfy FAA permits. Other than than adding some planes...

    2021 Hershey

Back late last night for four days of great weather. Sold some stuff and bought some stuff. One guy says he did good and another said he was really slow. It was good to get out and see people. The crowds were down but not to be unexpected. I can give lots of speculation but will pass. Just...

    Another loss

Yesterday I read the obits in the last V8 times and saw a few friends. Today I was informed that Kermit Cross, Kerk on here, passed away. Kermit was one of the founding members of RG5 with Lee Abernathy? founder of Lebarron Bonney. Kermit was a wealth of knowledge and attended many national...

    8ba valve train help needed

This should be easy but... I am putting together an 8ba with a merc crank, nothing special. The last motor I did a number of years ago I got all the stuff from H&H because I figure if they build, then they sell me what they warranty. Figure I got some tech support as well. Anyway I asked for a...

    Main bearing blowup and fasteners

I guess the broken bolts came out east. Here is a picture of a bolt that came out of an 8ba I'm doing vs the ones that broke. No testament as to what happened but wonder if Ford used different bolts.

    Center main blowout

I helped a friend pull his motor to see why it was rapping. We knew there was a main bolt that had fallen out but that's it. The motor was still on the hoist when we pulled the pan and that is as far as we got. Half the cap was in the pan with a broken bolt. When we tried to loosen the...

    SMS Upholstery order

I ordered December 11th and it arrived January 18th. It took a little while but with the holidays I understand. I'm just happy to be able to find what I did because Kanter no longer carries it. I recently saw some negative comments and was beginning to worry. In the scheme of things I do...

    Backing plate brake shafts

This is not a parts complaint but just something to be aware of. I was helping a friend ream the backing plate bushings on his 34. Using an adjustable reamer and checking the hole with the new shaft we were just about there when after the next pass it went in rather easy. A little loose but...

    Shock ID

I have what I believe to be original Model A shocks in what looks like pretty good condition but there are some differences that I'm not aware of on these. 3 of them have a check valve in the top of one fixed vane and the other has 2 in both fixed vanes. I do not think they are reproductions but...

    where is this all going

Please do not get political on this post. I know it is a fine line but refrain from bashing politicians or policies. Not my intent or something I need help with. As a result of the world's current status it looks like it will be a sparse year for car shows again. One I am involved with is...

Early Ford V8 Swap meet Fitchburg MA change date

We have a major glitch. Due to airport construction it appears the date will be moved to June 7. This is completely out of our hands and the alternative was 1/3 the space. It is not fair nor practical to scale back that much. Another venue also creates difficulties. We were originally told that...

    Is this junk

Got the crank cleaned up and noticed some damage around the hole on the rod journal. Quick measurement says rods have been turned 10 and mains 20. No cracks in the block so that's a plus. The guy I got the crank from will give me another one but I need to disassemble it.

    8cm cam grind

I have an 8cm camshaft that does not look too bad but when I chucked it in the lathe and measured the lift I found values between 0.330 and 0.320. One was at 0.335. These numbers were repeatable. My question is can this cam be the ground to something acceptable close to stock? I know the...

    Built a louver press

I volunteer at a friend's shop - Wray Schelien Pro Shaper Metal a few days a week to get out and learn some new skills. We built - or overbuilt - this louver press. Pretty much all of it is from scrap he had lying around. Got to use a MIG and TIG welder, plasma cutter, Bridgeport and a lathe...
