Engine runs rough with lights on

Hoping for a few ideas here. My '30 sport coupe runs perfectly, starts right up every time. But when I put the headlight switch in any position, the engine cuts out and runs extremely rough. Turn the lights off, and things are back to normal. At idle, the generator charges between 9 and 9.5...

    Replacing distributor bushings

My distributor shaft has enough sideways wobble that I can open and close the points by moving it with my hand. My question is do I have to remove the head to replace these? Seems like the easiest way to remove the old bushing. Thanks!

What would you pay for this T?

Howdy all! I was offered this T for 7k. It came from the president of the Model T club in Montana, raced in the Montana 500 there. I have a 1930 Model A, but don't know a lot about a T, although this seem like a good deal. The guy has a body shop and does excellent work, said I could have the...

    Rebuilt generator, major discharge

I just had my generator rebuilt, including new bearings and having the armatures rewound. This is a shop I've dealt with for years, so I never doubt their work. When I put the generator back on, the ammeter pegged to discharge and puffed smoke. Do I need to excite this generator so it knows...

Why do my lights make my motor run rough?

I am very fortunate to own my grandfather's 1930 Model A Sport Coupe. It is a 20 year old restoration, but i have been "restoring" it as it has been sitting for many years. I've rebuilt the carb, replaced the points adn condenser (boy, that was fun), rebuilt the starter, rebuilt the water...

Star packing nut on water pump

My water developed quite a leak the other day, draining all it could on my garage floor. According to the mechanic handbook, there should be a star packing nut to tighten things up. All I have is a collar with an Allen head set screw in it. I haven't been able to loosen it, afraid I might strip...

    Voltage at coil lights/no lights

Greeting All! I'm new here, looking forward to all this forum has to offer. I have been blessed with having my grandfathers 1930 Sport Coupe passed down to me. It's been just sitting in a garage for about 10 years, so I've spent the last few months cleaning things up, so far so good! The...
