    Wood repair products

My 1917 touring that I’m just starting on has all its its original body wood in decent shape. Maybe 80-90% of it is reusable, but that may change as I get further into dis-assembly. What products are best for restoring small areas of rot or damage, and what is best to use for filling original...

    Auburn Sept 3-5 swap meet

I thought I heard or read somewhere that vendor registration for the swap meet would start in June. But the V8 Museum web site says that registration is not yet open. Any ideas about when and how to register? This will be my first time selling there. Thanks

Removal of rear wheel- hub in stuck on axle

I’m taking the wheels off of my recently purchased 1917 touring to start restoring it, and three came off easily. But the left rear seems to be stuck on the axle taper quite firmly. If it was a Model A or a flathead, I would borrow a hub puller and be done with it by now. But I’m getting nowhere...

Suggestions welcome- ‘46 runs rough when warmed up

Suggestions welcome- ‘46 runs rough when warmed up Recently restored ‘46 Mercury with a stock 59A motor. It has about 300 miles on it since it was finished. New issue has shown up recently. When cold, it runs very well. When it gets fully warmed up (temp gauge to the right of center, but...

    1917 touring- door skin removal

What’s the easiest way to remove the skins from the wood door frames on a touring? I see they’re nailed on with lots of small nails. Grind the heads off, or get under the tabs on the skins and pry? I may reuse the wooden inner frames on two of the doors, as they’re in excellent shape. I need to...

    2x2’s again- power valve questions

2x2’s again- power valve questions I have been following the recent thread about 2x2’s on an 8BA with interest. My ‘53 Ranch Wagon has a EAB motor with Offy heads and Offy intake with two 94’s. Also has a Mallory distributor. It has always run rich and had any manner of flat spots when...

59A Head gasket tightening w/ Columbia question

I recently restored a ‘46 Mercury with a fully rebuilt stock 59A motor. It has been running great for about 400 miles, and then I noticed it was foaming and pushing out a bit of coolant. This appeared after I had to remove the Columbia vacuum switch that wasn’t working properly. To do that task...

    Stromberg carb question- no markings

I recently came across a Stromberg carb, that I’m pretty sure was last used on a ‘50 convertible. It is complete and in good shape, but it has no “97” or other designation on the body. I don’t know much about Stromberg carbs and have never had one on any of my flatheads. What does it mean to...

1917 Kingston L2 carb throttle shaft wear

My Kingston L2 carb has a badly worn throttle shaft. Looks like Snyder’s and Lang’s don’t have replacement throttle shaft assemblies. Is there a fix? Looks like the lever is pinned to the shaft. Can I substitute a Holley shaft or ??? Is it even worth dealing with? I was taught on Model As and...

‘42-48 outside rear view mirror install???

‘42-48 outside rear view mirror install??? Super hard to see out of my ‘46 Merc in reverse. So I waited until the Drake cowl mirrors were back in stock. Just got it and it seems absolutely impossible to mount. The cowl stainless trim that I need to remove is held on with a stud/nut clip in the...

    Temperature experiment- ‘46 Mercury

Temperature experiment- ‘46 Mercury I finished restoring my ‘46 Merc several months ago, and I was a bit concerned about the temperature it ran at. Motor was completely rebuilt, recored radiator, new pumps from Thirdgen (Ecklers brand), and 180 degree t/stats. It would go to the far right side...

    Original vs. Rootlieb fenders

Is there an easy way to tell original Ford fenders from Rootlieb reproductions? I just bought my first Model T (have restored Model A’s and flathead V8’s for many years), and I’m trying to sort out what I have. It’s a 1917 touring that was “restored” some time in the ‘60s or ‘70s, and the...

    ‘46 Trunk handle won’t lock

‘46 Trunk handle won’t lock I have an NOS trunk handle and NOS lock tumbler, but when the lock assy is in the handle, it won’t lock it. It appears that I’m missing a piece. In the photo looking down the handle where the tumbler goes, there are two parallel raised guides and what appears to be a...

    ‘46 Tool pouch photo?

‘46 Tool pouch photo? Does anyone have a photo of their 51A-17005-B tool pouch for a ‘46 Ford or Mercury? The “41-48 Ford Book” restoration guidelines only has a simple sketch and verbal description of the pouch, at 32” x 17.3”. I’m going to see if my wife can duplicate one, and it would help...
