1951 Mercury 12 Volt Conversion Horn Problem

Hi, Just got a 51 Mercury that has been converted to 12 volts. Lots of things weren't, gauges, overdrive and horn. It seems like the wire that comes off the horn button to the relay is hot and should be a ground. Logical since the 6 volt was positive ground now the 12 volt is negative ground...

It did start about 5 times. Then, the next day it didn't start. i replaced the coil with a known good one from Third Gen. I got a new condenser from Third Gen. Here is my question. Do you think it won't start because I have no ground at the engine? When I touch the coil wire with a multimeter...

    1935 Light Rod Horn Rod

Well, now I know why its called a light rod, it works the lights and horn. Mine was out of the car. The rod is attached to the circular horn part but only by a wire. I am thinking it should be firmly attached so that when you spin it the whole rod turns. Mine doesn't. Am I missing a piece on...

    1935 Thermostats

Looks like I need thermostats, none provided in the parts that I have, to put the car together. I am not concerned with originality here, you won't see them. Must I get the original style that a vender sells for $110 per pair or can I get modern looking ones from one of the venders for $7.99 each?

    Why a Resistor?

I know Henry Ford is right, plus he wouldn't have put it in there if it was not needed, but why is there a resistor in the 6 volt system, going to the coil and points? In a 12 volt there is a resistor that knocks it down to 8 volts or so, so the points don't burn out. We've got the same basic...
