New Youtube video: "Edsel Ford: The Forgotten Genius Behind the Model A"

This video popped up on my feed today - looks like it was just posted yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIoNAgAI4yo

My latest upgrade: Shifter Knob with Gear markings

The latest addition to my Town Sedan was to replace the stock Shifter Knob with one that has Gear Markings. I found this one on Amazon for right around $23; I got it with White markings for visibility, but it's also available with Red markings as an option. From the description, it's meant...

    Frito-Lay Model A

Stumbled across this (from the Frito-Lay Company). I don't know who the gentleman in the picture is, and no indication is given on their website. (The text refers to C.E. Doolin, but he passed away in 1959, two years before Frito and H.W. Lay merged into Frito-Lay)

Added a 90-degree oil filter adapter today

Really didn't need to, but saw this available and couldn't resist. Before: The new (to me) adapter, as bought: Painted and installed: Yes - I know there's a bit of oil sitting near the rim of the filter - that's leftover from when I removed the filter when it was mounted...

For those in Southern California: last chance to see 1929 Town Car on display

Thanks to TerryH's earlier posting, I found out about the Lyon Air Museum having a 1929 Town Car on display (as part of an all-Ford exhibit through Labor Day), and finally managed to make the drive there yesterday. The Museum is adjacent to John Wayne Airport and admission is very reasonably...

Educational video: How a Carburetor works (transparent carburetor in action)

Just stumbled across this video on youtube, and thought others might like to see it: How a Carburetor works (transparent carburetor in use, filmed in high-speed)

Neat old film from the Ford Archives

This has probably been posted before, but it's the first time I came across it: A short 38 minute documentary, "The American Road", which makes extensive use of film footage from the Ford Archives. It mostly covers through the Model T era, but I thought folks here might enjoy it if they...

Need to replace Sediment Bulb assembly - paint it?

Title says it all - I need to replace the glass sediment bulb assembly, and it looks like the replacements available from the vendors (I'm looking at Snyder's part #A-9155) come as bare metal. My current assembly is painted black; should I paint the replacement as well? If so, what paint...

Just wanted to share - took my weekend drive today...

over to my sister's (maybe 10-12 miles away), and left the car there: the niece will be attending a Gatsby-themed high school dance this evening, and the kids will be using my Town Sedan as a prop for pre-event picture-taking. If I was comfortable driving at night, I would have chauffeured them...

Added a boot to the Mitchell Overdrive shift lever

Just wanted to share - after the Mitchell Overdrive was installed, I thought it needed to have a boot added to the shift lever; just got one for less than $8 shipped, and I think it looks great (see the attached photo)! Anyways - if you feel the need for one of these, there are multiple places...

Another Mitchell Overdrive question - 26% or 36%?

Hi all, Long story short - I'm planning to have a Mitchell Overdrive installed. I have a 1930 Town Sedan, with a Snyder's 5.5 HC head and 3.78:1 rear end. The local Model A folks who will be installing this recommended I get the 36% OD. From reading various threads here, it looks like 26% is...

Decided to change to LED brakelights

After reading about and seeing other folks' pictures of how much brighter they are, I thought I'd go ahead and make the change - and WOW, I am impressed. Definitely brighter - the pictures don't do them justice. Here's Before and After pictures (I made sure to use the same exposure settings on...

In case you were thinking of adding a radio to your car

I was perusing ebay, and saw this Crosley CR-82 up for auction (currently no bids, starting bid is $25). It runs off of 4 AA batteries, so I suppose you could, theoretically, wire it into the car's power (assuming you are running the correct 6V) I like to play 1920s-1940s music (mp3s through a...

    My drive today

It was another nice day out, so I took another drive along the coast - here's some footage from the return trip, again on the 101 (like my last excursion), but this time going through Torrey Pines State Reserve - north of La Jolla and south of Del Mar. My speedometer is off by around 10mph, so...

It was nice out today, so I took a drive

and used the opportunity to try out the video capabilities of my new phone. This was along a stretch of the 101 in Encinitas, California - near Swami's Beach. Video of my drive today

Not quite Model A - flathead four made out of wood

Was looking around for all things related to "flathead four", when I came across this video on youtube: Wood Flathead Four cylinder motor Apparently a gent named Ken Schweim built a working demonstration model of a, well, flathead four engine (based on a Jeep L-134 he says)...he also has the...

Identify old car - not Model A

While perusing the ol' family photo albums over the annual Christmas visit to Dad's, I came across this picture of my Grandfather - just curious what year/model car he was the proud owner of. Thanks in advance!

Oil seeping from headnut - how worried should I be?

Title says it all - and see attachment for what it looks like. I regularly check the torque on all my head nuts (set to 55 lbs), and I checked the oil and see no evidence of water getting into it. Just wondering how, or if at all, serious this is. Thanks.

    Need a era-correct 6V Radio?

Well - sort of. Bidding is at $3.99 as I post this. I already have two of these - just the thing if you need a 6V radio that won't look out of place in your car : )

Was someone looking for a 6V radio?

Just saw this on ebay - a bit rich (in price) for my taste, as I've never paid more than $25 for the two that I have, but thought I should share this, just in case someone REALLY wants one. Here's the one I have:
