VIN or serial number location - 47 ford

Hey! I need to get a VIN inspection by the DMV to transfer the title into state. Pain in the ***. I've been looking to figure out where the Serial Number could be, but I can't find it no matter how hard I look. I've seen other posts saying "Near the steering box" but I actually don't know...

    Running, idling, not driving

So I've got my '47 ford (v8 flathead) starting and idling. It will warm up and then I push in the choke and it hums pretty well. However when I put it into gear (forward or reverse) it craps the bed. Jerking, popping, barely creating enough power to move the car forward. It doesn't matter how...

    Rebuilding a carb

Ok so to sum up some stuff: V8 Flathead - 1947. I don't have the original carb anymore, but a knock-off with a smaller intake. Car's running real rich, fouling plugs pretty quickly and putting out a good amount of black smoke on acceleration. Gonna try my hand at carefully cleaning the carb...

    47 Flathead v8 timing adjustment

I've read through the green book several times, tried searching around the internet, still can't figure it out. What's the procedure for adjusting timing on a 47 v8 flathead. It's a round type distributor but the fan hub, fan belt, and radiator are in the way so I can't really get at it to see...

    Time for a timing adjustment?

Hey folks! My 47 Ford just got back from the shop where they did a few things for me that I didn't have time to do: Resolved some coolant leaks (antifreeze is nasty stuff) and remounted the new radiator New carb Added a radiator overflow However after a few weeks of sitting without...

47 Ford Flathead V8 surging in gear

Hey folks, I think I finally licked all of the cooling issues for my flathead v8 in the old ford. I took her out for a drive and noticed a couple of things though: When I am accelerating it feels like the car is "surging" in gear. As I rev a little higher it evens out, but I feel like I've...

    Radiators

So I’m thinking of replacing the stock radiator with something more modern and clean, but it looks like there are a lot of technologies out there, and materials. Anyone have a recommendation for what the best cooling radiator would be? For a 47 Super Deluxe v8...

    Sourcing gauges

Hey folks, I did a 12v conversion recently, and need to replace all the fauges (except for speedo) with ones that work. I’ve got a 47 Four door sedan, any idea where I can start looking at gauges? Right now none of them work and it sure would be nice to know the fuel level and temperature as...

    Carb diagram

Does anyone have a diagram of the carb for the 47 flathead? I’m trying to tune the engine but realize I don’t know what knob does what on the carb.

    Coolant additive, will it help?

So before I do a full radiator flush I was wondering if adding something like water wetter to the existing coolant would help or hurt an old flathead. I'm assuming it will hurt it, so I might as well do the flush and figure out something else to keep the engine cool

    Starter with non-modern bendix

Looking for a starter (remanufactured or new, I don't care) that will fit my 1947 Ford Super Deluxe. All the ones I find online have the modern Bendix drive and so won't it into the flywheel.

    Starter

So I bought a new starter to replace the dead one I got. It turns out that the thing is harder to reinstall than I thought, and this happened... So now I can't get it back together. Plus, it looks like the Bendix drive doesn't really fit in the opening for the flywheel. Any advice on how I...

    Starter casing stuck

Hey so I'm trying to remove the starter to get it rebuilt or replace it, but I can't manage to get the starter off at all. I've loosened the two bolts on the front, removed the bracket that keeps it secure, and the casing spins freely... but I cannot remove the casing at all. It feels like...

    Starter removal

Hey folks, Any chance someone could point me to a guide or video or something to remove the starter for my 47 Ford V8? I've been pulling bolts off and it'd sure be helpful to have a guide. EDIT: Nevermind, it's both long skinny bolts and then the housing slides off. Neat!

    Starter problem?

Hey folks! Thanks to the hard work of this forum I managed to improve the wiring between the battery and the solenoid, and there's plenty of power going to the solenoid now. I can hear a nice solid CLICK every time I push the button. However the car still isn't turning over. So it's on to the...

    1947 Ford starting problems

So I'm new to the classic car hobby and just bought my first project car, a 1947 Ford (4-door sedan). I'm in love with how the car looks, how I feel sitting in it, everything. And I'm really excited to wrench on it. https://i.imgur.com/Lf7tpks.jpeg However one thing that I've consistently...
