I have a rebuilt flathead which is secured to a pallet at my in-laws in Hillsboro, Oregon. When I visit next week, my plan was to use a hoist to pick it up and lower it into the bed of the pickup truck. My father-in-law doesn’t have a hoist so I was planning to rent one from a local...
On a Sunday Drive, for no real reason I doubled back to a barn sale. Found a Kelsey Hayes rim and two other wooden spoke wheels. Here are a couple of photos. Does anyone recognize this type of wooden wheel and possibly what make/model they are from? They are mounted with Allstate 5.00 - 21 inch...
Two questions.
1. I believe that the gas pedal was originally cadmium coated. Did the cadmium extend end-to-end, spoon & cross-shaft or was only the spoon & spoon shaft coated?
2. As shown in the photo, reproduction emergency brake handles are polished chromed top bottom. Whereas only the grip...
Restoring a couple of air cleaners. Completed the first one and hadn’t opened the second one until today. I’ve handled many air cleaners at swap meets etc and this is the first that I’ve encountered with for lack of better words, a horse hair filter under the cover.

While browsing Craig’s list for fun, I stumbled across this really nice complete original ‘34 big truck. Wow, what a great example of a complete truck.

I am restoring several 1934 speedometers. I believe this question has been asked in the past, however, a search didn’t find an answer. Were the housings zinc coated and unpainted? All of the housing that I have appear to be that way. Here is a photo of one of the housings.
2nd question: Is...
Many of you know Frank Miller through Ford Barn or the Early Ford V8 Club. Frank has not been on the barn for a while because he has liver cancer and is in hospice. Last night Frank gave me permission to write this post and he wishes to bid all of his friends a very fond farewell. It has been a...
I’ve read here and there about conversions to a 48-52 F1 steering box. I’m wondering what the design is that makes it a desirable choice. Is the F1 steering a worm and roller design and what is the ratio?
I’ve put this question on the early V8 site but thought I’d add it here too because...

Did Ford use the same diameter steering shaft on most flathead vehicles?
Thanks,

I have a new set of 3.54 gears installed in my '34 axle. I need to swap out the drive gear (to 18 teeth.) I was looking at MACs which has the parts but I noticed that they offer the same gear case housing for both the Model A and 32-48 cars. I thought that there was a difference in the gear...
A silly question. Mounting tires today and after I put on the rubber rim strip, I noticed that the hole for the tube stem was in the middle of the rim strip. I didn't expect to see this and it got me wondering. Do I ignore the hole and leave the rim strip in the center of the rim as in photo...
If anyone has cut open the top of a '33-34 car gas tank, can you tell me the extent of the baffle panels? Looking inside a tank, I can see a slosh panel that obviously surrounds the gas supply and sending unit. But are there more baffles elsewhere in the tank? And were the baffles spot welded...
Did the '33 or '34 pickups have a door check arm or strap? I don't see one listed in the hardware & trimming supplies book. And then I see that suppliers like Drakes list a check arm for the '32-34 pickups. What's the real story?
Thanks,
-Mike
Don’t hold it against me but I hang out on the Early V8 forum on the Barn. :)
Today I need assistance with a Model A. I’m in New England and my father in-law is in Hillsboro just West of Portland OR. Years ago he was in a local club but has lost contact. His Model A was running but now he...
Which is the correct style of door glass bumper for a 1934 5 Window coupe? I see two different styles in Bob Drakes catalog, part # B-7021444 and B-7021452. Thanks, Mike
The left and middle gears are stamped "F 15" and "15" respectively. The gear on the right is stamped "03". The right is from a very original 1933 that I'm working on. I'm assuming that the 03 designates 13 to 1 ratio. And that the F 15 and 15 mean 15 to 1 ratio, therefore, they came out of a...
