    A few timing gear questions

So the other day I finally got the large timing gear off. Got the new aluminum one on yesterday and managed to get the two lines matched up after some cuss words. Before I close it up is there anything I should check first? Do I need to add any grease to the gears? I have new cork gaskets for...

Well I found my issue from my last post

Well after digging inti the car I finally found the reason it slowly lost power and died last week. After tearing things apart I found that the large timing gear was missing half of its teeth. Now my next question. Do I need to remove the radiator to change out that gear? How big of a task is it...

About 10 seconds later the car slows down on its on the then eventually dies in the middle of a bust road. Go to start it at it feels like the starter is just spinning. Got it towed home and find...

    Inside Carb

Here are a few pics of my carb. I noticed today that when trying to start the car the carb was leaking gas from the gasket and the gasket that attached to the manifold. Both og these are new. When I took it all apart I noticed on part looked to have a chuck missing, there was some sludge in the...

    Water Pump Leak

So after flushing out the radiator with vinegar (which I would not do again) I noticed I had a pretty good leak coming from the water pump packing nut. This lead to rusty water being flung into the radiator which then blew back onto everything else. Huge mess to say the least. As for the leak...

    Drained the radiator

So I figured I would drain the radiator since the car has sat for at least 10 years. I wasnt having any issues (that i know of) but since i had to get new hoses i figured now is a good time. So right now all the hoses are off. Do i just stick the garden hose in and let it run through for awhile...

    Thought I had it!

So after some weeks of fixing and replacing things I thought we were all good. I even drove it to my first car show. (which was only a few miles away) Yesterday I took it up to fill her up. On the way home the car was spitting and sputtering and a few pops all the way home. I was starting to...

    Brake lights

So on to my brake light issue. When pressing on the brakes, only the yellow part lights up. I can't get anything on the red part to light up. The car also came with this strange license plate that that wags back and fourth. That does work. Any ideas?

    Manifold Bolts

So over the weekend I replaced the manifold gaskets. Should I be concerned that 3 of the 4 bolts came out of the block? The nuts must have been on there pretty good because it removed the entire stud. I just put them back in and torqued them to 25lbs.

Another weekend and more head scratchers

Well another weekend in the books with the A. It has now been a month or so since I started trying to get this old dog on the road. Since that time I have cleaned the tank, new fuel valve with filter, installed new fuel float, new fuel sediment bowl, cleaned the carb up, new switch on the...

    Now onto a new issue!!

So battery issue has potentially been solved. Got the car to turn over and run for about 5 seconds. I put a new fuel valve on and a new sediment bowl. After some adjusting the carburetor screw I got it to idle for about 30 secs before it died and had a slight back fire. Fuel issue? Timing issue?

Battery Issue for a new owner

So two weeks ago I was lucky enough to inherit a 1930 Model A that has been sitting in a garage for the last 50 years. Slowly going through it trying to get it to run. Last week I bought a new battery and four days later it was dead. I am assuming there is a drain some place. Any tips for...
