    Parts quality

Just a little rant about some of the parts I've had to use. I'm building an 8BA for a customer. He bought a new production front cover and a fluidamper. The new cover would not allow the distributor to go in. The fluidamper would not fit the crank because the bore was too small. Building a 59A...

Crankcase ventilation on a supercharged engine

I built an engine for a customer and he has since added a supercharger. Now he is getting some oil seepage. Looking for recommendations on a viable breather system. All he has now is the breather on the oil fill tube.

    Offy heads

I'm building an 8BA for a customer and he bought a new set of Offy cylinder heads. Apparently they have done some retooling and now they will accept a 3/4" reach spark plug without any spacers. I'm using NGK BR7ES plugs.

    97 carburetor

Building an engine for a customer and he bought 2 new chrome 97 carbs, the good ones. They look pretty but when tested on my test mule engine, I turn the left screw all the way in and the engine still runs. In fact, it runs quite well. Idles at around 20" Hg. Both carbs act the same. Any...

Took the 39 to the drag strip

Went to a car show today and they were having nostalgia drags. Ran the 39 with a best et of 18.55 at 72.4 mph. Calculated horsepower form these numbers and came up with about 90 hp at the rear wheels or about 106 at the flywheel. Ouch! On the bright side, I cut a .12 reaction time on my last...

    48 truck engine

Has anyone else run across across a 48 V-8 truck engine with studs rather than bolts? I just picked up an engine out of a 48 F-6 2 ton truck. Engine looks like it was never apart. Has standard pistons. This block is also unique as it does not have a bushing for the fuel pump rod. It rides...

    Isky cam

Had a customer bring in an Isky Max 1 for his engine. Opened the box and no timing tag. I suppose they want you to trust that the cam is ground correctly.:):)

    Isky cam

A customer brought an engine in for rebuild. Looks like an old performance build. The cam is an Iskenderian that is stamped 101. He called Isky and they requested that he send it to them for evaluation, which he has done. Has anyone heard of a 101 grind?

    Mallory distributor

I'm building an 8BA engine for a customer. He has a Mallory YC distributor he want to use. I saw where Echlin cs-2301 points are recommended for use, however NAPA says they are obsolete. Any suggestions?

    A new one on me

Had a guy bring in an 8BA engine he had bought. Was rebuilt but had been sitting for a while so he wanted me to go through it. When I took the crank out, it was ground 10 under on the mains. But surprise, the bearings were standard. Put the right bearings in and when I started to torque it down...

    4 1/4" stroker

I'm building a 4 1/4" stroker for a customer. I have an Eagle crank and 3 5/16" Ross pistons with the metric ring pack. I was going to use 21A rods with full floaters, but the fillet on the rod journal is not like the Ford crank. The floaters hang up on the fillet. Has anyone run this...

    Oil pump

Whenever I start a new engine, I crank the engine over with the plugs out until I have oil pressure. I've done this with MCF remote filter engines also. Well I had one that would not pump. Not even out of the hose that comes out of the pan with everything else disconnected. I pulled the pan to...
