    Radius rod rubber ball replacement.

My car has the rubber ball radius rod repair on it and the ball is pooched so I am replacing it. Should it go on dry or lube it?. If it is to be lubed, lube inside, outside or both?. If so, regular grease or???.

    Body reconstruction question...Brent?

My '31 deluxe delivery was in pretty good shape other than the top where the roof wasIt ah rusted bad under the fabric and everything above the drip rail had to be replaced. Due to the poor condition, I was not able to observe how some of this went together, notably where the roof panel above...

    Houston....We have a problem

I bought the top and side wood kits for my 31 Deluxe delivery but made the bottom wood since it seemed pretty simple. Put all the wood together, everything went together quite well until I went to start fitting the quarter panels and they don't fit. When I clamp the back of the panel to the door...

Follow up to the "counter weight" thread.

I didn't want to hi-jack the thread on counter weights so started this one to ask my questions. If counter weights are so much better, why didn't henry incorporate them in the original design. Also, if a lighter flywheel is preferred/better, why did henry opt for a heavy one??. I understand that...

lifting off the body (Brent Terry)

I've lifted off ( and put back on) a tudor body with no problem by running a 2X6 through the quarter windows and lifting with my picker. However, I now have to lift off a Deluxe delivery body and am unsure what is the best way to go about it since there are no quarter windows and the door...

    Not enough power??

Been having issues with my horn. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it "sorta" works with the "sick cow" syndrome. Through a little testing yesterday I discovered that, it works best with the car not running. With the car running and the cowl lights on, the Ammeter draws 7 amps...

    How is it.........

.....that these cars don't run an air filter????. Why don't they get dusted? Any modern car would be pooched in pretty short order running with out an air filter and we have mostly paved roads. How is it that these model A's could run around on dirt roads with no filter back in the day??.

    Annoying rattle.

My car has an annoying rattle that occurs at slow speed but goes away at highway speed. It's a tinny sounding rattle that sounds like it's coming from under the dash or from the firewall. There really isn;'t anything under the dash or on/around the firewall that I can find that would make such a...

    cam timing.

I'm in the process of assembling my engine and find that neither my crank gear nor my cam gear have have timing marks (other than the dimple or TDC). To my hillbilly way of thinking then, when I put the cam gear so that the dimple aligns with the pin hole in the cover, that is TDC firing...

    assembling the Model A engine.

Wound this video and found it rather interesting. Especially the part about bearing clearances. I don't know if this method is specific to NEW babbit but found his comment about "everything you thought you knew about building engines...forget it". Thoughts on the interference fit of the crank...

When is a "Model A" no longer a "Model A"

Read a comment in another thread that raises a question for me. The comment was " I get really peeved when I see a chopped and lowered Model A with a V8 engine and automatic transmission listed as a Model A. IT IS NOT!". So, when did they cease to be a Model A??. Is a car converted to 12volt...

    Decided to pull the motor/trans

So, I had done the valves and guides (they were shot) in hopes of fixing an oil consumption problem (1qt in 60 miles) to no avail. It ran sweet but still uses the same amount of oil. So, I pulled the head and dropped the pan so I could pull the pistons and check them out. When I had the head off...

How common a practice is this?.

I saw a model A for sale the other day and in the description it stated, "has 8 volt battery to spin it over faster". I never thought of that before, but, then again, I'm quite content with the 6V. I doubt that an 8V battery would cause any issues with the rest of the systems, IE lights, horn...

Anyone know where this box came from?

Wondering what this truck box came from?. Don't think they put a truck box on the 1.5 ton trucks and the box looks to big to be from a normal pickup. http://www.2040-cars.com/Ford/Other-Pickups/1935-ford-4x4-dual-rear-axle-custom-built-pickup-698252/

    Engine inspection (with pics)

So, I pulled the head to change the gasket and inspect the cylinders. What I found was zero ridge except for cylinder 3 has just the SLIGHTEST hint of a ridge. Could be carbon. Pistons are .100 over, cylinder walls have NO cross hatching at all. So this is after 300 miles using 5 quarts of oil...

    oil level

Engine was at ""L" so I added a quart and it only brought it up about 1/4", less than half way to "F". Started the car and let it run a few minutes and shut it off, let it sit and still 1/4" above "L". Stick is gong in all the way. Doesn't seem right. How much oil should it take to go from "L"...

    Briggs body with aftermarket parts.

So, if you have a Model A with a Briggs body and buy all your parts from Brattons, At what point does it become a "Briggs and Bratton". Yes, I'm bored. :p

    Doing "upgrades"

There are certain "upgrades" that some people do to their otherwise stock model A's that puzzle me so I thought i would ask. This is partly in response to the thread on "grease" where the discussion involved original style vs modern grease nipples. My car has some of each and was missing a...

    First trip observations.

Got the plate and insurance today so was able to go for an actual drive. Put on a 60 mile round trip @ 50MPH highway and this was the result. Seems to run best with the advance on about 4-5 clicks from retarded. Any more and it seems to hesitate so I just back it off until it quits hesitating...
