General Question on Paint and Body Work Costs

Colorado Greg's unfortunate accident with his Coupe made me think of a conversation I just recently had with a friend who owns a body shop. Bill told me that the prices of paint, reducer, toner, hardener,,, all of it has gone completely insane. He said that every quarter his costs rise 7% on...

Steering column support underside of gas tank

Is it a viable job to try to solder the gas tank connection on these, with the tank still in the car? Or to do the job the right way, should it be taken out and done on the workbench? I have a small weeping leak that really should be addressed. Thanks.

Parts shortages building up,, Model A's and V-8's

A friend is in the middle of restoring a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe and a 1940 Ford standard Coupe. He was telling me how hard it is getting to get parts for both cars. A cast iron sediment bowl for his Model A they don't exist evidently. He ordered a wiring harness for the '40 Coupe yesterday...

One last comment on TV shows,,,,

... we cut the cord on Cable a long time ago, should have done it years earlier. With a Smart TV and fiber optic broadband, there is more than enough to watch all for free, and if you go to YouTube there are MANY videos of old cars in their natural glory, like the Old Car Festival in Dearborn...

    Cast Iron Sediment Bowl threads

I have a CISB that somebody sand blasted it and screwed up the threads that the bottom drain device screws into. They are very fine and fragile. Otherwise it is mint. What are the threads and pitch? Is there a tap you can buy to fix them? Thanks much.

    Old Cars in Hawaii

Paul Shinn's latest video, where he is sending his '30 Coupe 'Gandalf' to a buyer in Hawaii, got me to thinking 'yes' they don't have very many old cars over there due to the 24 hour per day 365 day per year, salt moisture in the air exposure.... Makes me glad I live in the Midwest away from...

Running a 59AB Flathead. 6V POS ground as original. Cranks to beat the band but she won't fire. Driving home at highway speed, the motor died and I coasted off the road. Wouldn't start. Got flatbedded home. First thought was condensor, being a Model A guy that is your first go-to point in...

    Checking an Ignition Ballast Resistor

I did a search and didn't really fine what I was looking for. My question is, what should the Ohm reading be on a good ballast resistor and what would it be on a faulty one. Rheostat looking resistor under the dash, '36 Ford with a '46 59AB flathead. One last question. Where do you buy a...

Model A Fords to be with us for a LONG time yet

This story is 2 years old, nothing new, but the coming electric car saga keeps popping up in the news. Ford is pushing for it also. Saw it today, again, on the local news channel. Didn't find a search here on this subject. This article is from the liberal CNN which hates automobiles and fossil...
