Any Model A Mechanics in Nebraska?

Desperately need a mechanic to help with a differential problem. Either take it and fix it or let me bring it over and tell me what to do while it sits in the back of my pickup. Videos, manuals, and online tutorials ain't gonna help because this is somewhat different than the usual in that it...

    Transmission front shaft

If all you want to do is pull the front shaft out of a 3 speed, what do you have to do? I think it is called the "main gear" but whatever you call it, it's the one that drives from the pressure plate.

    Differential part 2

Just an update. You may remember my previous post on a model A differential on a speedster with differential problems. Disconnected everything at the rear axle and the coupler at the front of the drive shaft. As I pulled it back the driveshaft came out the end of the torque tube. Yeah, that...

    Teach me about differentials.

Got a car. Actually more of s speedster but it has a model A rear axle and brakes. Last time I drove it, I let off the clutch, and nothing happened. Messed with the clutch linkage a bit, though I think it was fine and tried again and nothing. Then for some reason I pumped the brakes and it took...

    3 speed versus 4 speed

Can someone tell me about how much longer a model A four speed pickup/truck transmission is, front to back than a three speed. Not the clutch housing, just the ****** itself. Thank you

    Rear end ratio-gear question

I have a speedster with a model A rear axle that I am trying to slow down a little. The present rear axle is the standard 3.78. If I should find a 41 tooth ring gear, is it a direct replacement? Is the pinion the same or does anything else need to be changed?

Making an A axle steer easier

Now that winter has set in, I'd like to do some work on this thing to make it a little more drivable. One of the problems is that it steers hard. Part of the problem is likely the Deere steering sector I used, which is definitely not designed for running a model A front axle, but I wanted to use...

    Front hydraulic brake conversion.

Awhile back I posted some pics of the speedster I built using John Deere parts and model A axles. At this point, I have only model A rear mechanical brakes, no front brakes, but in driving it, it seems like they won't be enough. Due to the way the thing is put together, I can't imagine trying to...

Clutch drive train, what's going on here?

You can see my post elsewhere on here regarding my Deere speedster which has an "A" drive train. I am still having clutch linkage issues. If I jack up the rear wheels with it in gear and the clutch engaged, and turn a rear wheel it does not turn the engine. If I turn the engine with a crank, it...

    My A Deere speedster

Here is the reason I had been asking questions on here the past few months. I was building a speedster with as many John Deere parts as possible. The radiator is from a "GP" tractor and the engine is a two cylinder vertical flathead from an old Deere pull type combine. The frame is T and the...

    Need a 6x6 U joint

Without going into all of the gory details as to why, does someone make a 6x6 spline U-joint like the one shown here?

What do you guys finish wood with?

I am working on a speedster and I'm wondering what finish to use on the exposed wood. Guys on a woodworking forum told me that I can stain it and spray it with 2k clear coat, same stuff I'll use over the color on the metal. Is that correct? What do you guys use on woodies, speedsters etc?

T engine hooked to other ******?

Thinking of building a replica of another car, of which none are known to exist. A T engine would be about the right size, horsepower and speed, but the other car had a more or less standard clutch and transmission. Has anyone ever seen a T engine with a standard clutch and ****** hooked to it?

What's the latest you can remember anyone using an A?

For actual transportation and not as a collector car? In the early 1960s, our rural mail carrier would sometimes deliver mail with one when there was snow on the roads. I was just a little kid so I don't remember what specific year or model it was. Probably had chains on it.

    Steering column circumference?

Can someone tell me the diameter of the steering column on a model T? My speedster project is going to have a different column, and I want to install a monocle on it, but since I don't have the monocle yet, I don't know what circumference to build the column. Diameter or circumference, either one.

    E brake springs

Can someone provide me with a link to a photo of how the springs connect to the emergency brake bands inside the rear hub? I took them off years ago because they were so stuck I couldn't even roll the thing around. Now I'm trying to put it back together and I can't remember how they hook up.

    Installing rear brake drums

Is it always super hard to get them on? The shoes on the cam side are against the rollers and the adjusting cone is all the way in. Are my cheap eBay brake shoes too big?

    Another possibly stupid question...

so I'll blame it on the dog. Buster wants to know if the axle sticking out of the housing as shown here, should wiggle a bit. Is it just the bearings in the hub that hold it in place?

What's the maintenance on rear axle bearings?

The roller bearings at the ends of the axles? I have the hubs off now, do I just slather the bearings up with grease before reinstalling. Was that like a routine maintenance thing on these cars?

Can someone tell me the name of this seal and where to fine it?

Looked in paper catalogs and online. Perhaps if I knew its proper name. The ones in the coupler that hold the torque tube to the ******.
