Does anybody know the difference between 28-29 and 30-31 Phaeton top irons?

What does the knob on the right side (as is sits intalled on the motor) of the distributor adjust? The literature I have has limited info and does not tell me its purpose. Thanks

Gents, My AA suddenly lost compression on 3 cylinders, so I opened it up this morning and found the intake valves on 2, 3 & 4 are taking about 4 seconds to return to the closed position. Attached a video taken with my Iphone through the spark plug opening...
