Changing The Rear Mount on a 32

I have had to rebuild my differential so its out of the car. I would like to change the rear transmission mount as well as the rubber is not very good. Can it be changed without pulling the engine and transmission? Or at minimum can the engine and TX be moved forward enough by disconnecting the...

48 F1 Back Glass Too Big

I bought a new rear window for my 48 F1 and its too big to fit the opening. Its about 1/16 to 1/8 too wide along the bottom compared to the old one. The old one with the new gasket fits the opening. tight but it goes, but there is no way the new one will fit. Does anyone out there know if it...

    32 Rear Spring Height

Does anyone out there know what the unloaded spring height of a stock 32 rear spring is? Mine is 9 in from the bottom of the main leaf at the center to the bottom of the eyes, as measured with a straight edge between the 2 eyes. My fordor looks to be about 2” low, and leans to one side (drivers)...

    1932 Fordor PArts Applications

I'm looking into purchasing new running board covers and rear spring shackles for my 32 Fordor. My supplier has both parts, but they do not include the sedans. All of the roadsters, phaetons, convertibles etc are listed, but not the tudors or fordors? Anybody know a reason why this would be...

    Valve Guide Pre Lube

In the end the stuck valve (See "Loose Valve Guides" thread) turned out just to be either carbon or rust build up in the guide. I got a .342 and a .343 reamer to clean them out (intake and exhaust respectively). Any ideas on the best pre lube to put on the stems and guides during assembly...

    Canadian Date Codes

Attached is a picture of the date code on my 8BA engine. There seems to be two different stampings, LC and a lighter D9. THis doesn't jive with the US numbering system. Does anyone have a cross reference to the Canadian scheme? Thanks Al

    Loose Valve guides

Has any one ever seen the valve guides coming loose on an 8BA engine before? The engine has less than 10 hrs (none on the road, except around the neighborhood) and two of the exhaust valves have come loose ( 7 & 4). I thought it was sticking valves at first, but looking at it closer, the entire...

    Resistance Ignition Wire

Has anyone tried using just a resistance wire between the coil and the distributor cap to reduce radio interferrence, while leaving the original flat spring wires between the cap and the plugs. I have a 12v system with a radio and a CD player. The FM's OK but AM is a disaster. My thinking is...

    Gas Mileage

Anyone know what the typical gas mileage on a 4 banger is? Since I put an Airtex (2.5-4PSI) pump in with a bypass line to get it down to 1 PSI, my mileage has gone up to around 24 MPG Cdn/ 20 MPG US . Don't ever remember it being better than 20 MPG Cdn. This is an average over 185 miles. The...

    32 Steering Box Seal

Does anyone know the proper location of the metal convex/concave washer in the steering box around the horn/light switch rod? Does it go behind the cork gasket against the bearing or between the end plate and the gasket? Also looking from the light switch end, is the washer higher or lower at...

    Mysterious 4 cyl knock/rattle

My model B 4 cylinder has developed a mysterious knock/rattle at idle or during deceleration but is not there when the engine is rev'd. Its more like a loud rattle rather than a knock, and appears to be coming from the valve or timing gear area, but not sure. The engine runs fine, so I don't...

    Model A , B U joints

Are the U joints in these cars meant to have anything to prevent lateral play in them (side top side). I don't see any C clips in them like a modern joint. If not, what keeps them running true, without vibration. Thanks Al
