    Found something neat

I’ve been cleaning out my stepfather’s garage for my mom. He was a mechanic and passed. He was a bit of a horder. His father owned the local mechanic shop in La Mesa during the 40’s/50’s and 60’s. Eventually retiring in the 80’s. The garage is full of tools, old and new. I found a wrench with...

    Is this correct?

The original rubber has aged to a point where it doesn’t resemble the new part. Set up like this the bolt isn’t long enough to pass through the water pump. Is this the correct order to set up the engine? Do I need to trim the rubber ring next to the head of the bolt to make it work?

What Temperature Sending Unit do I need?

I bought the 1940-1955 Temperature Sending Unit (6-Volt) (Single-Post) from Early Ford Store. Everyone sells the single and double post unit. The one on my truck is a single post. The unit on my truck is much larger than the one I received. I don't see any other options than the two for sell at...

Does anyone else have this on their truck?

On the dash is this T-handle and I'm trying to figure out it's purpose. It goes under the dash and connects to linkage or a bar that crosses over to the other side of the chassis, and then that connects to the Master cylinder. The truck has a parking brake on the floor. It doesn't connect to the...

    Towing Capacity?

I've been bouncing ideas of the possibilities I have with this thing if I'm able to get this thing running correctly. The thought of putting a trailer behind it with a smoker on it to sell food sounds fun. Of course I'd need to have a custom hitch made for it. I'm wondering how much weight this...

    Which motor is it?

I'm new to flatheads and I've been reading and learning what I've got. The fire engine is a '41 and weighs 10k lbs. I'm assuming that the motor a 59AB because of the following. The carb has MODEL 59 stamped on it. It has a crab style distributor. The head on the driver side has 59 A-B and on the...

    Removing Rust from the Block

I've started digging into the engine and planning to replace the radiator hoses. After removing the bottom hoses a handful of rust fell out. I was hoping not to have to pull the engine. This is what the engine block looks like. I'm not looking at getting this into show car condition at this...

    DURA-BUILT Engine Company?

While removing the carburetor, I found this on the front of the engine block. I've done a search for DURA-BUILT Engine Company and have only found the Incorporation records and a lawsuit that involved them. I can't tell if they built engines, parts or if they did the body mods to make it a fire...

I cant find an On Off switch box online

Since I'm redoing the electrical wires, I want to get the On Off switch on the column working. The fire station had bypassed the switch with another and put it under the dash on the firewall. I can't seem to find a replacement for the box behind the switch online. Is there someone that sales...

Can someone tell me what this is?

I started rewiring under the hood. There's been a few Jerry-rigs done before. I actually got the engine to turn over. :) Under the dash there's this. The wire coming from it was cut, so I don't know where it is supposed to go. It may go to something towards the back like the pump. Any help is...

Replacing the wires on a 6 volt 41'

I need to replace the wires under the hood and dash. I'm a rookie with 6 volt. I've read and been told that it requires larger gauge wires. I believe that the attached wire diagram is for a 41' truck. Would it hurt it to go with larger wires or does it even matter? I have a new battery. I'm just...

New wires for 41' 6 volt

I'm going to be replacing the wires under the hood and dash and I'm a rookie with 6 volt. I have a new battery. In the future I'll most likely get a harness. I've read and been told that I need to use a heavier gauge wire. Is this diagram correct for a reference for proper wire size? Would it...
