28-29 Panel Delivery (79a) build: Wood dimensions?

Looking to build a Panel body from scratch, steel is no problem... but it all starts with the wood framing. I believe only one wood kit is available but have not heard the best from some panel owners. That has me considering building my own wood body frame. Lots of photos but nothing is close to...

    Best repo ring and pinion?

I have a broken gear and have decided to upgrade to the 3:54 gear set. Reading a Tom Endy article (Thank you Tom, for putting the knowledge out there!) he say’s most new gear sets being excellent quality but has encountered a tolerance issue of a few newer reproduction gear sets. I’ve been...

    Did I get a defective U-Joint?

I had a random noise in the running gear around 30 mph letting off gas. Happened once, then again, and now constant... reading past posts it sounds very much like a U joint problem. I noticed my ujoint shaft bolt and retaining washer was a little loose and could be the cause the problem, while...

    35-36 truck grill lacing

I thought this would be an easy find but not having much luck. Does anyone have a couple detail pics to show the correct way the truck grill lacing fits? I assume its tucked into the "slots" and the mounting screws hold it in place? also a lower pic where the inner fender bolts to the grill...

    Any AA trucks running 55mph?

I've read in other forums that a few AA owners have a obtained a cruising speed of 55 with Mitchell, engine mods, high/low and the higher speed rear end (I dont think there is a way of improving the brakes other than making sure they are properly rebuilt) Has me curious... I'm not looking for a...

Road trip: making it there and back

I took the truck out for a run from KC to Barltelsville and back last weekend for the Stray Kat 500 show in Dewey. Had quite the adventure and smiled most the way. Thought I’d share the story. 9 years ago I started assembling a chassis for a fenderless, per-war roadster. Engine was an unknown...

    Repop headlight lens issue

Ordered a new lense for my ‘39 and not sure if I order the wrong one or its a bad repop? Same Two Lite script, logo and Top clearly marked but it’s smile is turned upside down. Was one half of the mold rotated 180 degrees? What gives?

    1939 COE speedometer cable

Anyone know the routing of the speedometer cable through the cab? I've looked in the Green Books and cant find a layout. Fixing a cluster of extra holes that need welded up and not sure if this went through the top of the doghouse, firewall or floorboard? Thanks!

    Speedometers with gear ranges?

Picked up a speedometer for the ‘39 COE, didn’t need it but looked unique and seemed a good fit for the vehicle. I havn’t seen many Ford speedometers with shift points and wondered what the back story was? What vehicle they came in? Doubt my flathead even with the overdrive will break 60.

'39 COE truck oil filter search

Pulled the oil filter canister (under the seat!) an surprise it's longer that the passenger cars. The current filter is an obsolete Baldwin T-58-M, called and they no longer manufacture but gave the specs: 7" long 4 5/16 OD AND 13/16 ID I'm having a hard time finding anything that interchanges...

    New '39 COE owner questions

Waited for the right one so last week when a 95% complete running '39 became available, my neighbor and I grabbed it. Overall we're very happy with the truck it looks like it had an easy life, pleased with no major sheet metal damage or rust or scale with a healthy flathead and scoots down the...

Ordering a Distributor Cap/Rotor, best one?

Ok. It's parts time. I burned out a 6V converted halogen bulb and can't find one locally so while I was placing my vendor order thought I'd grab a new rotor and cap too. This board has a lot of "Well you should have ordered from..." or "Don't use those.." So before I spend my cash, who has...

    Rear axle bearing load

Please excuse it's a little borderline but I felt there were more experts here on than on the HAMB. After close to 50k miles on my little mis-mactched pickup I've decided to put it back on the AA frame (short WB w/ TT stakebed). To fit my needs and wants I'm going a little more modified on the...

Installed the Simmons Super Power head

Forced myself to park the truck a couple weeks and do maintenance, while at it finally installed the Simmons head. Always something: broken head bolts (ended up leaving some old studs in place) and after 50k miles on an unknown rebuild/babbitt a few things that have me thinking about a fresh...

My trucks first home: Log Cabin Garage

While the family was visiting Odessa Mo. this weekend I slipped over to the Museum and found a different photo of the garage my "A" wrecker first called home. It wasn't in this view but there is an A. The Sinclair rep sure did his job helping with signage. When I first acquired the body 7 years...

    Turn signal mounting options

A recent post about turn signals is timely for me as I'm getting ready to make alterations for easier and safer driving of my '29 CCPU. I'm curious how most of you set the column mount up, it seems awkward to me to have two levers (turn and advance) so close to each. Weighing some options...

Damnation TV series: Fords in primetime

Caught a new series on USA last night, Damnation. Depression era based series that has of course a few Model A, AA and T's. Not a fan of the story yet, but the camera work, sound quality and set direction look pretty good. I'm sure someone here was involved with the automotive. If I can't...
