    why wire wheels?

I woke up this morning thinking about the wheels on my 34 Ford pickup. Why did they use wire wheels on the early vehicles, as opposed to the stamped steel wheels which followed. Was it just aesthetics? History? Evolution of manufacturing process? Does anyone out there know?

    34 pickup spare tire holder

Does anyone have a picture of what the spare tire attachment looks like. I have the rod and the brace in place, but there has to be another piece that attaches the rod to the wheel. Some sort of backing plate since the rod comes exactly in the center of the large wheel opening. Thanks, Ed

    34 pickup oil pressure guage

I want to install an oil pressure guage. Where on the engine is a good place to attach it? I see some fittings that look right on the left (driver side) rear of the block just below and to the rear of the head. Is that oil? Thanks,

34 pickup, finally back together but....

I have been working on getting the 34 back on the road for about 2-1/2 years, now. Finally have most all of the body work done and a first coat of paint. Started it (factory rebuilt tag on engine) for the first time in almost 50 years and it runs great!! However, I notice a small coolant leak...

    34 pickup steering column mount

Is there a spacer that is supposed to be between the column and the dash? I have about a 2"gap. Guess I could loosen the steering box and see if the whole thing would rotate enough to fit. Thanks. Ed

    Way off topic--Selden Truck

In 1922, my grandfather was a dealer for Selden trucks in Hartford, CT. Does anyone have a picture of a Selden truck? I've never seen one.

    34 pickup door gaskets?

Were there door gaskets around the doors on the 34 pickup? I'm thinking the large soft rubber type that would prevent water from blowing into the crack between the door and body. Also, was there a headliner in the cab?

34 pickup oil question and ignition resistor

I have a 34 pickup with a 21 stud engine that I think is original to the truck although it has a factory rebuilt tag on it. When I got the truck, it didn't have a dipstick in the oil pan. I'm getting ready to try to run it (have done a ton of body work, etc) and so I found a dipstick, put 5...

    34 pickup front frame mount

I never seem to be smart enough to take before pictures. I'm in trouble again as a result. I am reinstalling the cab to the frame. All 6 wood blocks are ok to use and I have them in place, I think. However the tab on the front edge of the firewall needs some sort of spacer between it and the...

    34 pickup wood question

Do you know what species of wood was used for the support blocks for the cab and also the wood in the bed? Looks sort of like maple but I think that might rot easily.

    34 pickup cab assembly question

What material was used between the cab body and the roof? It appeared to be a fabric with some sort of sticky material on it, but I could not identify just what it was. Also, is there a good source for the lower rear cab panel? I really want from belt-line down as mine is rusted from stuff...
