    Ford F1 radiator capacity.

I found the water capacity and didn't have to add a water recovery or adjust the tire pressure or the timing. First off I had to bite the bullet and get a clogged radiator recorded. Then I removed the thermostat s and drilled a 1/8" hole in the rim to let the AIR out of the engine when the...

    Cooling System

I looked up the capacity of the cooling system in my 1950 V8 F1 pickup in the Shop Manuel and it said 23 quarts. I put in 2 gals of antifreeze and 1 1/2 gals of distilled water and that brought the fluid level up to the radiator cap. I thought there must be one heck of an air bubble in the...

    Self respect

Nothing on the TV the other night and so I watched one of those restore it in 48 hours and take it to the auction and sell for a million dollars shows. I was amazed at the number of times that the "technicians " laid down on the cold dirty floor instead of getting a creeper. When I had my body...

    Old cars

I was watching the Barret-Jackson Auctions last night when one of the "expert" commentators said that if you had an old vehicle and expected to make it home at the end of the day, you had to be a mechanic. That is why people "improve" their vehicles by putting in late model drive trains, there...

    1948 Ford F1

Did I goof up? This jack, I was told, came from a 1948 F1. The extension was welded on and the former owner said he thought it was an add on. I cut it off, but now have second thoughts as to whether I did the right thing. What say you, is the extension correct or not.

    F1 Cowl Vent

I took my cowl vent apart to paint the lid and trough and to replace the gasket on my 1950 F1. The lid does not close tight nor will it lock down. I see a spring loaded nut and bolt on the left side and adjusting it up and down increases the tension on the lid, but no adjustment is...

    Exhaust Diagram

Just purchase a dual exhaust system from Waldrons for my 1950 Ford F1. I had nothing to start with and now need to know what goes over, under or through. The system is stock on the right side and a mirror image on the left side. A diagram of a stock system would be a big help. I understand...

There are two frame braces just behind the cab on the cross member that the emergency brake equalizer mounts to. Exhausst manifold

What is the difference between an 8BA left manifold and an 8RT left manifold? I have an 8BA in my 1950 Ford F1 and the 8BA left exhaust manifold is only 1/4" away from the steering box. Is the 8RT that close also, or is it much further away?

    Exhaust manifold

I just cleaned, resurfaced and painted my exhaust manifolds in my 1950 F1. However the engine is an 8BA, and not an 8RT. When I bolted the left manifold in place, I noticed that there is only about 1/4" clearance between the manifold and the steering box. Is the 8RT manifold different than...

    GL 4 Vs GL5

I rebuilt the transmission in my 1950 Ford F1 floor shift. I put in the remains of 2 containers of GL 4 and went to NAPA and Auto Zone to buy more GL 4 or 3. Neither of these stores carried GL 3 or 4. Everything on the shelf was "meets GL 4 and GL 5 specifications". Since GL 5 is not...
