Does one need to pull the wheel hubs and re-pack the wheel bearing or are the zerts on the hub adequate for doing the job… How often should one pull the hub and inspect the bearings/brakes?

I pulled the starter off last night for another project; I found the teeth on the starter to be pristine. The teeth on the gear inside seemed to have a little wear or a light bur on each tooth (far side of tooth). Is this normal wear? Is this a problem?
