    coolant level concern

I am using a Brassworks radiator so I can't really tell when the tubes are covered, so I fill the radiator to the top of the neck. If I run the engine in the parking lot without going anywhere, even for a half hour, the fluid level does not change. When I take it out for a 8 mile drive I fill it...

Foam in coolant - fixed (?)

I bought a bottle of Steel Seal and followed the directions as if my problem was a blown head gasket. However each time I removed a spark plug and ran the engine, bubbles continued to come out. Mystified as to where to turn, I quit for a while. A few days later I ran the engine again and no...

    Foam in my coolant

My overheating problem became obvious when I noticed foam coming out of my radiator. I removed the spark plugs individually and observed foam each time. I put in a bottle of Steel Seal to see if that would fix it. I again removed the spark plugs one at a time, to prevent back pressure, running...

    Lost a wind wing

My 1931 Roadster wind wing glass is captured with two sets of clamps. They are rubber backed for additional friction, but they do not seem to have sufficient holding power. Is there a more positive way to secure these wing windows? Thanks, Lee

    More on shifter tower gasket

I cut a paper gasket to fit the vertical surface on the front of the shifter tower and put it together. So far so good, however I can't help wondering how a gasket can work without bolts providing pressure to squeeze the surface. Any thoughts? Lee

    Shifter tower gasket question

I am replacing the tower and after making a new gasket for the tower / body surface I notice there is no gasket on the vertical surface where the two plungers slide in. Is this correct or do I need to make a gasket for that surface? Thanks Lee

    Pull to the left fixed

Hydraulic brakes, 1800 miles, never driven in the rain, brake lines blead, shoes properly adjusted, DOT 3 fluid, new Cling set up. For quite some time I have experienced a sharp pull to the left when I hard stop. Doing everything I could think of with no solution, I finally replaced the two...

    Break shoe width

I have a problem getting the correct torque on my rear hub.It binds at 40 ft lbs. I also see signs of hub to shoe interference. My shoe width measures 1 5/8". Do you feel that is correct? Should I grind off the high spots , replace the shoes, or is there something else I am missing? These are...

    How SWEET the sound

I just got my new manifold gasket and gland rings. The replace process went very well. No parts left over etc. I didn't know the torque value for the manifold nuts so I will go with 50# unless you folks know better. I took it around the block (4 miles) and she ran and sounded really nice...

    I think I found it

I have been fighting a miss for some time. Today while idling the engine, I grounded out #1 and no change. I grounded out #2 and no change. Grounding out #3 and #4 each slowed down the engine speed. I measured the dynamic pressure at each plug and all were at 90-93 psi. I do not have the tools...

    Points

While checking my points I noticed that the stationary one had a round hole in it. Is this a normal condition? Still learning Lee

    My miss is gone

For a year I have been fighting a severe miss. I went through all of the normal suggestions -testing pressure, soaking cylinders with various fluids, changing out the plugs, new coil etc. This year I was about to check for a broken valve spring. I started the engine and sure enough it still...

    Starter bendix spring bolt

Greetings, My starter would not engage so when I removed it I noticed one of the bolts holding the spring was missing.I ordered a new set but now I am concerned about the old bolt and washer somewhere in the flywheel housing. Will it cause damage? If so how do I find and remove it from the...

    Single filament Br/Sig Bulb wiring

I have been told that "single filament" brake and directional wiring can be accomplished without all of the relays I am currently using to do this. I was referred to the "Seven wire switch" circuit. The drawings do not show any internal switch connections. Does any one have a drawing of the...

    I feel good all over

My '31 Roadster and I were invited to Fountain Towers (a senior high rise in Rochester MN) . The seniors were having a party whose theme was "memorabilia days". The idea was to have each of them have their picture taken standing next to the car. Then someone wanted a ride. There was no way any...

Miss or rough running when cold

I have a miss or rough running engine when cold. This just showed up. I have 1200 miles on the rebuilt engine. The GAV is at 1/4 ccw. Changing it makes no difference. I changed the plugs. No difference. I start full retard and run 3/4 advance. The problem seems to go away after 4 miles. Could...

    Oil Leak

I have a little oil leak so I thought I would clean up the engine and tighten up all pan and oil related bolts. The pan bolts were quite tight but the bolts holding the oil return pipe were not so tight. I snugged them up a little but was afraid to tighten as tight as the pan bolts. I feel this...

    Something new to talk about

This is a visual description of an electrical representation of the acoustical signature of my Model A. I used the exhaust area to record. Notice only the amplitude changes not the frequency. Just thought it would be of interest Lee

Update/Solution to "pulls to the left" hard stop

Some time ago I mentioned my '31 Roadster would pull to the left when trying to stop hard (hydraulic brakes). I thought it was my left rear wheel grabbing. I finally decided it was my right wheel NOT grabbing. problem: Air in brake line on right wheel cause: hand held vacuum pump reservoier...
