    New starter

I have received my new starter, from CGFord parts. It is the one with a modern “Bendix” gear to connect to the flywheel, and it is some larger. It includes a small note about having to grind a bit off the casting on the lower side, after removing the starter plate. Has anyone done this? Can you...

    Exhaust leaks to coolant

I have not visited the site for some time. My problem. I am getting exhaust gases in my anti freeze. I have tried using Iron Tite but without success. I believe the source is the helicoils that were put in and they allow the gasses to pass. I have replaced the head gaskets and torqued to 60...

    Exhaust in coolant

I had started this thread last October, and had to put off doing anything until this spring, and here I am again. I expect that a fine crack is in the block, going from the number 3 exhaust valve to the top centre bolt. To refresh I have checked the gases in the radiator top tank and it is...

    Exhaust gas in the radiator

I am experiencing some exhaust gasses in the radiator. I suspect it is from the right side of my 8BA engine. what experiences have Barners had like this. What areas do I look at when I remove the head to change the gasket(s)? Which of the head bolts go into the exhaust area? I do not get any...

    Last time out this year

You can see by the picture that we do have a slow entrance to winter here along the St Clair River. One last ride for Merlot before the too long winter's sleep. Its all washed and winterized, so just a quick trip around town to give a couple of things to a local niece and new baby. We have a...

    Merlot's Fall Tour

Our Fall in Southern Ontario is not as colourful as Ol' Henry's but it was a clear and sunny day. We travelled to Oil Springs in Lambton County to see again the oil fields that were the first in North America to produce Crude Oil commercially. We are parked near a well cleaning rig that is...

I don't know the answer. I was approached by a restorer, and he asked was the transmission the same in the '33 four cylinder and the V8? He is assembling a 1933 pickup. Thanks, Byron.

    Hauling wool

We don’t often get a chance for a tour and get to haul something in the back of the truck. The tour was planned but not the cargo. We travel sometimes with another old truck and we look good together. Sherm and Caroline drive the tribute to his Dad’s last meat delivery truck, a...

    Worn Distributor rotor

Yesterday on an extensive road trip I experienced intermittent engine miss fire. On opening the distributor I found that the metal contact strip to the coil, that is on the rotor was worn back about 5/16 to 3/8". Enough that there was very little metal left to make contact. I did clean it up...

Speedster and Racer Hall Of Fame Part 2

The following is Al's story of Nebraska. The Nebraska trip was really neat. Our American hosts were super-organized, and gave us a very warm welcome. The folks belonging to the Model T Club were so much like me, totally wrapped up in their particular vehicles, but keen on sharing information...

    Turn Signals

I know I haven't posted much lately but I have been reading Yesterday while driving Merlot through town, I went to signal a left turn and the switch handle broke off in my hand. This is the 1950's style devise that has the wheel that runs on the base of the steering wheel to automatically...

    Lee Hartung collection

I found this video buried in another. It is an amazing collection, that went up on the RM auctions last November. Mostly very old bikes and a bunch of Model A's. There are two '32 Ford cars. I think I''ll watch it again. So good to see such history being made available to car and bike...

More about temperature senders and gauges

I followed Old Henry's instructions to confirm the wiring of my temperature gauge. When I attach the right side sender wire to the left (Double) side sender, the gauge goes completely hot. My question is should I reverse the wires on the gauge? Thanks, Byron.

    Ford truck and MG

This is a follow-up to the previous post on Working Ford pickups. My previous posts have said that I purchased our pickup in 1957. Our second car was a 1954 MG TF, which we bought in 1960, and then sold in 1964, when our daughter came along. We bought a clone for the MG in1994, and after several...
