Engine was rebuilt by a well known Tacoma engine builder. It was never started after the rebuild as the owner passed away. The build tag is still on the engine. It is complete with new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel assembled. Ready to bolt in and go. I'm helping the Widow sell it. Shipping...

    Escutcheon compression tool.

Gary asked me about a photo of the shop made tool to compress the escutcheons so the pin can be installed on the window cranks. Don Bader is the guy that taught me this little helper.

Great little trick for the battery hold down. I pretty much duplicated your method. New battery, floorboards etc. Glad that little project is in the books.:D

    New floor boards and battery

Bought a 60x60 inch sheet of Baltic birch plywood. 15/16. $60. Haven't done measurements but it looks like the sheet may be enough for all the floor boards and toe board for our Tudor (1930). Beautiful sheet goods with flawless plies. Marine grade glue too. Need to replace the Battery so might...

Killin time with Covid 19 and JC Whitney

Sibs and I are cleaning out our parents home. I came across a few car mags from my high school years 65-68. I found two JC Whitney cats from 1966-68. What a riot looking back at myself from long ago. I wondered just how many of us are driving Model "A"s currently that may still have some of...

Gallon jugs for stretching top material.

Hello all. I have searched google and the archives here as well for a photo of a 30 Tudor top installation. The picture shows gallon jugs filled with water and fastened to the edges of the top. If anyone can provide that picture I would appreciate it. I have no intention of using this technique...

No more "Modern Points" from Ford Motor Company

Just got back from our local Ford dealership parts dept. The counterman told me they have been discontinued and after market suppliers are the only avenue. I wanted to buy the best that I could. Currently running NAPA 's best which IMHO is ok but still looks kinda cheesy.

    Drag link "innards"

I'm finding two different orientations for the spring, cups etc. In the Model "A" Ford as Henry built it ( Edition three) page 43 a technical illustration shows the pitman arm end of the drag link. What I'm seeing is a spring (next to the zerk) ball cup, pitman arm ball and then the end plug...

    Steering box question.

I'm pondering going back to my "original" steering box. I just pulled it out of the shed. It has the keyed shaft. The only markings are an "F" and a 7 embossed on it. What do I have?

    rear axle nut torque confusion

Les Andrews states two different torque values in the red book. One is 100 ft pounds and the back page states 115. I searched the archives and found a thread where many guys insist on 220 ft pounds. WTH?

Spindle bolt bearings Timkin T 83

Redoing king pins and the "kit" I purchased has some shady looking bearings. I have searched here and my findings indicate the Timkin T-83 are out of production. Also I did not find any felts in the kit. Will any felt work or is there something special about the felts in the kit? Current thoughts?

    King pin quality

Which vendor is selling the best king pin sets. I know there were problems several years ago and plenty of complaints. I'm finding out my front axel is twisted. Frame and axel shops are scarce here in the Seattle area so I may try to find another axel at our clubs big swap meet this weekend. I...

    Minneapolis dective work

So I'm doing my own cut and sew upholstery job on our Tudor. For the longest time I was unsure if it was an original interior as it is very old. I discovered a label from Fabric Supply which is still in business. It was an address label and the shop involved was Loye Upholstery. I did a quick...

    30 Tudor headliner.

So my winter project is reupholstering our 30 Tudor and adding new glass. This is NOT a kit. I'm doing my own cut and sew. The headliner was very, very old and may have been original to the car. I carefully removed it only to find a PO had wrapped the bows with electrical tape many years ago...

    30 tudor front seat question

OK I decided to re-upholster our Tudor. The old interior appeared to be a cut and sew and in it's day was a very very good job. I don't think it was original. In any event ....The front seats had the valence ( some call it a flap) that goes from the backrest to the seat cushion. My question is...
