Auto Parts

Looking for the best place to buy parts for these old vintage engines. Getting ready to rebuild a stock 239 Y Block engine. Has all original parts. Complete engine with 3 speed std. transmission. Reside in MS and have my own shop. Should appreciate some advise. Jim

Welcome to the Ford Barn! You will find more help with the Y-block over on the LATE V-8 part of this forum.

What part of MS are you in? I'm below Jackson a little, and also have a Y block in a '55 Victoria.

I live in Richland MS, just north of Florence MS. I used to have a 56 Victoria back in the day. Had a 292 with a 4 barrel holly. loved that car. Wish I hadn't sold it. I noticed that parts are hard to find now days. Used to be some Obsolete parts stores around, but most have gone out of business. How far south of Florence do you live?

This engine that I am working on came out of a 1954 Ford Crestline. It is the OHV version. All I have is the engine and transmission. Plan to completely rebuilding it, then find a home for it. Want to bore it out as far as I can. There is plenty enough room there. Never been bored. There is a lot of room in those old Y Blocks. I will take your advise and see what I can find. Thanks.

Check to see if all Y bocks have same external block casting features.
I think it's quite likely. If so, hunt up a 292, or better a 312.
You will be $ ahead.

Good idea. Leave the 239 for the restorers. Start with something better if you want to build a "Hot Rod" motor.

I hope you understand that the 54 239 (block EBU) was a one year engine. Internals, like the cam, are different from all other YBlocks. Oil pump drive is different, water pump, fuel pump, etc. Even intakes from later engines are not compatible. If want a YBlock, get a later 239 (EBV) ) or a 272/292.
