F1 Ford truck steering box parts

I have an F1 steering box in my 32 roadster. The worm gear that is on the steering shaft is pretty worn. I think there is a guy in California that builds a new worm gear and steering shaft and builds the shaft to a custom length. Does anybody have a contact info for them.

Also I am using a 1940 steering wheel so I need a slot for a woodruff key.

Also try Mel Gross in California at 714-292-8660. I think he rebuilds those boxes.

There is a thread on here somewhere that has photos of tools fabricated to pull the worm off the shaft and to reinstall a new one. They usually have real shallow splines with one larger master spline on them so they will not rotate on the shaft. There are roller & pin kits to replace a worn sector roller as well. I've always rebuilt my own. It's not too bad a job if you have the where with all to get all that stuff together.

I talked to Randy Gross not long ago. Mel passed away but he is rebuilding the boxes now. I have the same number 714-292-8660. Good guy.

I used Larry Bledsoe ‭+1 (909) 855-7853‬, He rebuilt 2 steering boxes for me. He's in Redlands CA. He did a great job.
