A nice '40 - Wadaya think?...Sold for USD $23,500 - 09/09/2026

You did save time :)
This thread started off by asking what we thought about the sale price.
A number of us replied to that query.

Mike, your restorations are heads and tails over this car, but I hold that the sale price was yet a bargain. Even an old dirtbag hick like me could fix the droopy handles, the droopy exhaust along with the missaligned fender skirts in a couple of days. It still wouldn't come close to your work, but maybe some blue collar guy could afford it and get involved in the early V8 hobby. Because Jailbar trucks aren't '32s or '40s I have introduced 5 or six young guys into flathead V8s and I communicate with them often. Ok, to be entirely honest I did suggest that one of the guys (about 35) who wanted to haul his John Deere collection to distant shows might consider installing a 300 cu in Ford six into his 2 ton jailbar, which he did, Nice rig too, Sorry. GB

I was not comparing this car to anything but its sale price. As I stated in the third post and copied below, I still believe this sale wasn't so much of a bargain but rather, "about right".
Post #3:
Seems about right. If one looks closely, this car has seen better days. Still, if it operates as claimed, it'll be a nice McDonalds Wednesday Night Show car.

I jave had a couple, and other than flatheads, "300 sixes Rule".:D

300 Ford sixes were the go to swap for the old Continental flatheads in the Divco milt trucks at the Dairy I worked at in the mid '70's. Even the milk men couldn't kill them.

Well if there is one thing I know it is 39,40 Fords. This was,is a decent 40. The few things I noticed are easy to change or fix. The buyer got a great deal on an excellent driver quality car.

Sadly I do see a trend in lower sale prices on 40's. Coupes usually bring a better price than comparable sedans.
