Ford does. It involves using the existing armature in an FE case. It has been done many times. https://myflatheadford.com/building-a-12-volt-flathead-starter/.i guess no one wants to help. the '51 was allready totally rewired and converted to 12volt. i feel persecuted. on the barn i have allways tried to help if i could. powermaster i believe is the only manufacturer that builds a n12volt starter for flatheads.
the vintage torque model above is the model that failed for me a week ago. first i thought the starter gear was bound up in the flex plate the last time i attempted to start the car the way it sounded. i rocked the car vigorously in n3rd gear so much it moved a few inches. when i jumped from batt.to large post on fender mounted relay got big sparks.seems like lots of power getting to starter to no avail.before that when i would turn ign. switch to start all i would get is click at the starter and the fender relay. the vintage torque starter has been discontinued i believe so maybe thats is why powermaster has discontinued that model. I'm going to have a shop do the work this time. im 75 yrs old with most joints notworking so well and two hip replcements. i was just under the rear diff. a few days ago removing a broken off grease zerk remaining threads with easyout and replaced with new zerk. that btook all afternoon. thanks for asking wga. sorry for the ramble. Tom.No problem with Powermaster products. Where / what do you need help with? Removing and installing the replacement? This is part number 92507 which is a higher torque version of the stock starter.

this is not a contradiction or criticism because we are talking about different model years, but i had different experience recently when installing a new 6v starter with a new style bendix on my '41, as it involved no modifications at all.I had a Powermaster Vintage Torque starter in my stock 8ba. It failed under warranty and the dealer initially said it had to go back to the manufacturer but then fixed it in house. Sometime later it failed again. Took it back and when they opened it up it was toast. The internal parts were plastic and while the starter appeared the same size as a stock starter the guts were much smaller. Do yourself a favor and buy a 12 volt stock replacement starter and call it a day. I do recommend using an original style Bendix as opposed to the new enclosed unit. The newer Bendix requires some grinding to the bellhousing in order to make it fit. JMO.
Thanks cadillac, got the new starter installed today. youre right the new starter is better than the discontinued "vintage torque"so called hi torque. hope the new one lasts longer tha the 3yr old vintage. Tom.The Powermaster gear reduction starter you are installing is a very good starter. It's nothing like the old Powermaster "Vintage Torque"you are removing. Good choice.
