Is this worth trying to repair (block crack)?

I do believe it has 2 freeze cracks. I found this thing at a repair shop in Moscow Maine. it was used in their tow truck up until the mid-70s when I am told it was removed, running, but 'making a noise'. I am sure it sat outside on the ground, and looking at the top end of it water definitely...

Is this worth trying to repair (block crack)?

Not a lot of money in it at all. Just some time. I like the way you guys think. Will tear it down the rest of the way and either I will go at it with a dremel tool/drill and some JB weld if it is only as bad as the pictures show. Damn thing is the top end of it looks wonderful! Any contact...

Is this worth trying to repair (block crack)?

I wonder how hard and what kinda crazy $ it would be to take the bottom off one of these blocks and machine a new one, making it a 2 piece block. All I do know is it is some depressing, to get the oil pan off and find cracks.....

Is this worth trying to repair (block crack)?

Got around to pulling the oil pan off a 1941 truck block (99T 239CI) that I came across. found the following. first 2 pictures are of the same area (right at the center main bearing) and the last one is directly opposite it on the other side of the block...

    37 generator cut-out

yes, i have such a set up. i did not put this engine together, and the person that did is not available to get information from. there is not near as much information on the pre '39 generators as there is on the later ones, and there is seems to be good reason that ford went to the 2 brush...

    37 generator cut-out

this thread seemed somewhat relevant on my search so i thought i would continue it a bit further. yesterday went to start the engine, and not enough juice in battery to do it. put it on a 10A charger for about 15 minutes and it was running. i put a voltmeter on the battery much later on and...

Do you think this block can be used?

Good point Lonnie and Ralph. It didn't cross my mind yet that it was a 239 engine. Lonnie, thanks for that link, I hadn't seen that one before. The pics are pretty bad, and the deck isn't that clean, but it isn't relieved.

Do you think this block can be used?

Picked this up today for $150 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B98HkOcty2iVMXJHVFhTaGtyQjA/view?usp=sharing it appears to have been bored once at Somerville, all pistons are marked with a C: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B98HkOcty2iVdVB4VW1nRWVuOTg/view?usp=sharing at first glance...

Whhat happens to the Title ?

Maine won't title anything beyond 25 years. they could have cared less when i went to see them with the title i had, and would not even accept it. so i have a Michigan title for my vehicle that will remain in my possession. the problem with this that i see, is what if a title wasn't conveyed...

    Gravity bends a crank?

on larger (non-automotive) engines, you have jacking gear to turn them over slowly after they have been sitting for a while to remove any distortion from gravity, and this is a crank that is supported. no doubt in my mind that same doesn't happen to an unsupported one. the question becomes...

    Gravity bends a crank?

agreed, there is truth to this, if it is not properly supported while being stored horizontally.

    34 coolant leak

i saw where you put the dye in, but didn't see any mention of the antifreeze. most dies i have worked with don't leave much of a residue. do you have dual exhaust or single? if it is what you are thinking and you have dual exhaust i would run the antifreeze exclusively. that would hopefully...

    34 coolant leak

This.... I would put some antifreeze in the system to make it a bit easier to see. this is one of those situations that it would seem so complex, when you find the answer it will already have been something you thought you inspected and dismissed. i vote that you have a leak, and just haven't...

    Water Pump ID

Interesting GM. I am a believer in not fixing what isn't broke, but have been toying with the idea of pulling the pumps and replacing with another set, then sending what i have off to Skip, as that seems to be the consensus here on what to do with water pumps. that would give me a spare set on...
