Model A dies over 45 mph

This is remarkable that I found this post. I am having the very same problem for some time. I have a stromberg 97 with a fuel pump and a regulator set to 3 psi.I have gone through the ignition system and fuel system. I am now checking to see how the flow is ahead of the fuel pump. I do know...

MikeK Thanks for the explanation. I have read this about modern fuels before, your explanation makes sense to me. I will let everyone know what I find.

model A with a stromberg 97 stalls at highway speeds

Midgetracer I think that is my next step, to replace the diaphragm pump with the vane pump and see if the problem goes away. If I remember correctly my Carter vane pump had a pretty high flow rate. I called Carter when I figured out the vane pump was vapor locking and they told me to run a...

model A with a stromberg 97 stalls at highway speeds

MikeK Fuel pump is mounted on the inside of the frame rail. I did check for flow after the pump and it was very good. Gas cap vent is working. I do have a stock glass sediment bowl with a filter in it. How would this create vapor lock?

model A with a stromberg 97 stalls at highway speeds

Hi guys, Struggling with a problem on my model A. I have a new Stromberg 97 on my model A ford. When I drive at 50 mph or above it stalls like it's running out of gas. If I pull to the shoulder , reduce speed it's like the fuel pump catches up and I can continue driving. This problem is very...

    Auction recomendations

I was asked by a neighbor about how to sell of a large collection of Model A parts, projects and finished cars that her father owned and has since passed away. I don't know a lot of details yet but I'm thinking their best bet is an estate auction company. Does anyone know of such a company in...

    chassis not level

I checked the frame and its pretty good, not perfect. It has been suggested that maybe the fender braces, fenders are out of whack. I think it is probably a combination of many things. The car is way to nice to take apart and start straightening and bending. I have decided it is what it is...

    chassis not level

Thanks for the search link Mitch. I read though the posts. I have tried reversing the spring and that didn't help at all. I realized while reading the posts that I don't have the rear u bolts tighten down, I do the front. I am going to loosen the front and with the weight on the wheels jack up...

    chassis not level

Hi Guys I brought my 1929 model a into my shop to lower it a bit because I have '35 wire wheels on it. Based on some other threads on the Ford Barn I have it down to the level I want now. The only problem I have is it sags on the drivers side. It always has except that now with the car...

Who makes the f1 steering box for the model A?

HI guys, just finished installing one of Randy's steering boxes in my 29 today. Took it for a drive and it works wonderful. Feels like power steering when turning the wheel while stopped. Steering box and mast came with everything needed to install and very good instructions also. Randy was...

    Dropped headlight bar horn mounting

I apologize for not getting the photo's posted that I promised. I ended up out of town for work and was not able to take them. I see the post from denis4x4 and this looks exactly the same as my set up.

    Dropped headlight bar horn mounting

I have a 29 tudor project I am finishing up. It has a dropped headlight bar with the horn mounted to it. The previous owner mounted the horn using a shift arm from a Muncie 4 speed. It's tight but it fits good and looks pretty good. I'll try to post a picture or two in the next couple of days

    leaking carb

I got my second rebuilt carb from Bratton's and it works, no leaks. Guess it was just the needle valve not seating. Bratton's was great to work with.
