    Mallory Distributor

I have a a Mallory on our Model A, not sure which model it is, but it came from Bubba. There is an adjustable plate in it to limit the advance. In our case, with a 7:1 head, I've had to limit the maximum advance to 28 degrees, but just very occasionally when charging up a hill at high revs in...

    F 170 Tremec 3+1 transmission install

I have an F150 3+1 installed using a Macs Speed Shop bell housing and found it very satisfactory over many miles. Whilst he is based in New Zealand, I believe that he ships to the States or has an agency in the States. Contact Graeme McNeil at: graeme@macsspeed.com

From memory, you simply pull the stick upwards and swing it around against the gas tank.

    Model A rearend conversion

Our speedster will cruise effortlessly at 70mph with the F150 gearbox and the highest ratio 4th gear, but we only hold this speed on a motorway in light traffic and excellent road surface. Otherwise, it's most comfortable cruising speed is around 55 mph and it's brakes and suspension that...

    Adjustable Drag Link

I bought one off Machine Girl a few years ago when I was unable to get full lock on both sides after fitting a shortened pitman arm. It worked a treat and was an excellent product.

    Hot Ammeter!

I've had all sorts of issues trying to get my speedster running properly and when local expert Errol, suggested looking at the ammeter, I found a similar result to that in the photo. With no fuse in the original wiring loom it can be the ammeter that fails when overloaded. Mine was a repo as I...

    Dynamic dampening front pulley

This is my favourite theme, and I can only reiterate that Murray Horne's harmonic dampener worked miracles on our modified engine which had been scrupulously balanced, eliminating a loud timing gear rattle and the vibration periods of the motor. It made the biggest single improvement to the...

    Vehicle vibration

The harmonic balancer pulley is a simple way to eliminate most vibrations that occur over the rev range. It is relatively simple to fit and reasonably inexpensive. "These dampers are made by Murray Horn in Levin N.Z. His Company is Engine Restorations Ltd. His email is horn@xtra.co.nz Murray...

    Nissan distributor for Model A

I have read that a Nissan electronic distributor with some modifications is a good installation on a modified Model A engine and wonder if anyone can tell me which model Nissan it would come from? (four plugs not eight)

4 inch drop axle, front for 31 A

Thanks Chris #12 What I can't tell from the photo is whether the Jeep tie-rod end comes with it's own ball and therefore requires the replacement of the original Model A ball? I have already replaced the balls on the ends of the steering arms with new balls welded in place.

4 inch drop axle, front for 31 A

I'm curious about the Jeep Tie Rod ends solution? I have a '32 front axle which drops the front about 1.5 inches, but on sudden bumps, the tie rod taps the chassis and I haven't found a solution to dropping the tie rod 1.5 inches? Any other suggestions that doesn't include goose necking the tie rod?

    Lightened Flywheel

Thanks for that observation Brent, It was my understanding that a harmonic dampener is most effective at the front end of the crankshaft? Having seen a a flywheel mounted dampener, not only did it look complicated, but one also has to remove the motor to fit it. Whereas the Harmonic dampener...

    Do YOU single-clutch ?

As mentioned by Jack Shaft, if you think you've got your double clutching off pat, it's time to try the challenge of not using the clutch except for starting and stopping. Of the many crash box cars I've driven, the Model A is the simplest to drive without using the clutch for gear changes.
