    Model B distributor

@BobC Yes, thank you. I have this cap. They are sold by the majority of Model A parts providers. The cap is simply described as a “modern distributor cap” for a Model A Ford. It doesn’t fit on a Model B distributor unless you add a second index pin notch precisely 90 degrees to the existing one...

    Model B distributor

Bob, Thank You Again. Do you have a photograph of a genuine High Speed Model B distributor cap? I have been searching for days and cannot come up with any historical photographs, period advertising, or data on Model B high speed distributor caps. I have nothing. Why isn’t there a shred of...

Wanted: Original Model A lower distributor plates

I have interest in obtaining original used Model A lower distributor plates. The ones that I want have non-magnetic brackets, where the condenser mounts and the pop-out button contacts. The bracket material is typically thicker on the originals .046 or so. I am not concerned about the condition...

    Model B distributor

Bob, Thank You, that explains it! So, that is not an FF-71 cap. It’s just an FF-71 box. I actually bid on it when it was active. Now, I am glad I didn’t get it. It’s not the correct cap. That answers a lot of my questions. Does anyone have photos of a real FF-71? (A genuine high speed...

    Model A Improvements

I think it’s ironic that Model A enthusiasts buy a Model A because of what it is, and then once they obtain one they spend the rest of their lives modifying and upgrading it until it’s no longer a Model A anymore. There are degrees to this phenomenon, and I am guilty of having this tendency...

    Model B distributor

The Niohoff FF-71 that was on EBay is sold, gone. It was advertised that it fit a Ford Model B. There is a chart on this forum that confirms that number as a High Speed Model B cap. The cross reference was to an Ampco F-928. There are currently dozens of Nihoff caps on EBay, but those are not...

    Model B distributor

I just bought a Model B distributor. I am planning to experiment with it in two different ways. 1) I am going to run it on s stock engine with the static timing set at 3 to 5 degrees BTDC. 2) When my second engine is built, with a 5:5:1 head, I will static time to TDC for less total advance. The...

    Best lubrication for transmission ?

I am working on a 1930 AA truck. The differential has a brass thrust plate that the ring gear pushes against to prevent the ring gear from wobbling in the case when it’s torqued up under a heavy load. Also, depending upon what parts are available, there are spiders gears for these trucks that...

    Best lubrication for transmission ?

Absolutely correct about lubrication needs for modern helical gears are very different than lubrication needs for spur gears. (Apples and Oranges)

    Best lubrication for transmission ?

The Model A parts suppliers are not in the lubrication industry. They are not formulating or making the oil. They do commonly re-package the lubricant from bulk and place their label and name on it for sale. Many of the modern lubricants are harmful to old gear boxes and differentials because...

    Curious of your preference

The throttle on the steering column of a Model A Ford is really there so that the engine can be used as a stationary power plant. AA trucks and all versions of A cars share the same engine and controls. A AA truck with a power takeoff arranged to run a saw, a cement mixer, a water pump, or a...

1931 Model A pickup hard to start

The points were most likely damaged by leaving the key on. Take a look at them and see if they are now burnt and pitted. Your timing may be slightly off if you did not have the control lever fully retarded when you set the position of your point cam.
