    Flathead conundrum.

Just thinkin'. In this case, "one man's trash is another man's treasures", might just be true.😄

    Flathead conundrum.

Uh, Mike. When does the trash man come by your house?

    Auto Parts

Good idea. Leave the 239 for the restorers. Start with something better if you want to build a "Hot Rod" motor.

    I would take that bet.

    8RT Hop up

After some research an much discussion, I left the stock 8CM cam in the '51 Merc I installed in my '51 Ford coupe. After 10 years of driving, I think it was the right choice. It probably wouldn't have been if the engine had been going into a much lighter car.

    8RT Hop up

What is the engine going into? How you modify an engine should vary with it's intended use. An engine for a light roadster should be built differently than one that will be used in a relatively heavy late model sedan or truck. In my opinion, the most important factor when building a flathead is...

Welcome to the NEW Ford Barn!!!!

I made a post a few minutes ago, and shortly noticed I had made a "typo". When I went to correct it, I couldn't. Is there a time limit before you can correct a post or did I do something else wrong?

    Ford flathead overdrive transmission

I have a couple of T89's (a variety of the T85) with the R11. While they are more robust (they hold up well behind FE's), it would be very difficult to successfully mate one to an early flathead (which @Ziggster has). I am planning on running them initially behind an 8BA, and later moving up to...

    Rebuild 1940 shocks?

You replied to a very old post. I believe the gentleman referred to has passed. I believe the best current rebuilder is "Andy's Shox". I am not an expert, but have heard that "Apple Hydraulics" that advertises a lot, may not be the best, and should be carefully checked out...

    New Points or Complete distributor

That "doohickey" withe the slotted hex screw on top is the vacuum brake. Make sure it is free and that the leather tip is in good shape. It should be spring-loaded. A lot of people ignore them, but Henry never spent money on stuff that wasn't needed. It's just another component that needs...

    Ford flathead overdrive transmission

'49-early '51 Mercury with the B/W R10 overdrive. Not the strongest out there, but a very useful unit behind a flathead. Some folks "cheat" and simplify the electrical operation when installing them, but I find when installed properly (factory wiring with kickdown switch and relay) they are more...

    flat head studs

If it's an 8BA with stock heads, I would consider using bolts, like the originals. I even use bolts for aftermarket finned aluminum heads. Most aftermarket head in recent years have been made with oversized bolt holes and tend to fit so loosely that they can actually slide around during...
