    2012 dollars vs. 1980 dollars- Model A's

Inflation and falling purchasing power certainly have roles in the going price these days, and there is a lot more seller competition in the online marketplace as well. Sellers in the 80's were a bit more localized than today. I'm guessing there are fewer buyers today too; a quick stat on how...

    Oil Pan Storage

There's probably something a bit more refined than this, but I've used wheel bearing grease to protect bare metal I did not intend to paint. May be good for the inside of your pan. Good luck!

How to prevent frozen manifold nuts?

Lots of cool tips here about the torque values, stick form of copper anti-seize, and now the proper fit of studs. Hadn't thought of any of it, but glad to have been informed. Let me try to add one more: use a rethreading tap or thread chaser on existing threads to help prevent cutting too much...

How to prevent frozen manifold nuts?

I've used copper anti-sieze (not the normal silver stuff) with some success. Had to look for it, but found it at NAPA.

Yeah! They need to use mine! (see avatar)

    Movies with A's

I don't watch too many movies, but I saw "Ramblin' Rose" (Robert Duvall) the other day. Lots of Model As in that one!

    Air Compressor Help

It doesn't sound like you are planning on doing any major work, so that compressor should prove to be handy. It will do fine with intermittent use; topping up tires, impact wrench, air ratchet, etc. The die grinder is a different beast because it runs continuously for longer periods of time-...

    Engine oil pan dipper trays

I've used hydrochloric acid (aka muriatic acid) to dissolve rust inside fuel tanks, but that is nasty stuff. Electrolytic rust removal sounds like a good idea to me; perhaps it would be a good solution for your dipper trays. Here is a link to some good information on the topic...

    Engine balance during install

Just to add to your point, some method of including the passenger side head studs would be necessary to avoid a side load on the plug bolts. The commercial puller in the first post and the one pictured above in post #23 both have provisions for the plate to push down on the studs as the hoist is...

    Engine balance during install

Sounds good, thanks for the heads up. I found a couple pictures and see what you mean. Seems like this is the consensus on the importance of balance. Not critical; but helpful to be close. Well said. I've had mostly good experiences in various forums, but everyone's comments in this thread...

    Engine balance during install

Great stuff, Dave. That's the heart of it. Thanks! Are the dimensions what they appear to be?... meaning; the upright plate is about 3/8" to the right of the front middle and rear middle head studs?

    Engine balance during install

Looks good, Josh! I like the shackle better than the large holes on the commercial one. Looks stronger.

    Engine balance during install

Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone. It's really helpful to a guy who is trying to put together a tool for a job he hasn't done before! Sounds like a good approach, Rich. I'm aiming to get it as balanced as possible, but expect that some amount of what you described will be...

    Engine balance during install

Thanks for the reply, Paul. I cannibalized the old plugs to anchor the head plate, and see they would be easy to adapt as a lift point. These seem like a a decent, low cost solution as well: However, based on the lift point position of the commercial head puller/lift plate in my first post, I...

    Engine balance during install

Hello all, I'm a new guy here and a new owner of a '29 Tudor. This seems like a great forum and I'm excited to participate. Using some design ideas from Gord's and Jason in TX's head pullers, I have fabricated a working head puller plate and will be adding provisions for engine lifting. I...
