Just purchased a data plate for the firewall on my late 31 Coupe. The rivet holes in the firewall don't line up with the holes in the repro plate. Holes are off by about 1/16" My firewall is not a re-stamp. Anyone run into this?
Exactly the sound I have. I was able to rotate the crankshaft to a position where I could rock the timing gear by hand and make the noise. I put a .003 oversize about 20000 miles ago so I guess a new .005 should help. When you put the new gear on and turned it by hand did it still make some noise?
I have read that if there is up to .010 that it would be noisy. I do seem to have a tapping sound and wonder how much is coming from the timing gear. I pulled the plugs and when I rotate by hand I can hear a distinctive clang every time the lifters go over center. Would this indicate too much...
Thanks to all for the suggestions. Wefco has a large selection of U channel rubber and they have something close to what I need in stock. Thanks Puck
None of the vendors I called we're aware there was a special size U channel for the late 31 coupe. I suppose there were not sufficient cars...
Bert's agreed with my assessment. They don't carry the thicker channel and seems none of the other vendors do either. I looked at many rubber extruders on the web but I could find nothing suitable. And yes I have the thicker roll down style frame.
I think perhaps back in the 80's or earlier...
Turns out late 31 indented firewall coupes used the same thickness wood frame as cars with the roll down rear window. My standard coupe did not have the roll down rear window. A thicker window U channel is needed to take up the gap. I looked everywhere and could not find anything that would fit...
I have a late 31 coupe with original rear window wood and frame. The glass U channel rubber has dried and cracked causing the window to rattle. I removed the frame and glass and ordered a new U channel from one of the vendors. When I received the U channel rubber I noticed it was only about .4"...
