    Vendor Question

I would love to support my local vendor. But their prices often far exceed costs for parts from Snyder’s even when including shipping and handling. Vendors I like are Snyder’s, Bert’s and Bratton’s. My local guy probably has higher over head than the 3 vendors I mentioned. However I need to...

'30 Model A barely turns over

A starter repair shop added a ground terminal to end of the 6v starter case from which I ran a battery cable directly to the chassis. The ground cable must carry the same amount of current as the starter draws from the battery. The starter now turns almost as though it's being powered by 12v.

Unlikeable Aspects of the Model "A"

The laminated safety glass in all windows creates a house of mirrors effect anytime of day in my coupe. There are situations when the reflections allow me to see the car in front of me when looking in the rear view mirror. At other times I can see the reflection of the car behind me while...

Skills & Assets of Model A Owner

Perseverance! Removing rusty nuts and bolts for me has often required use of a cut off blade on my angle grinder or a propane torch. I have purchased many Model A tools; spreaders and pullers to complete suspension rebuilding, engine, transmission and rear axel/torque tube R&R. I have used a...

Leakless water pumps... is it me?

If only they were available. A local Model A parts dealer is charging $275 for a used 2 blade fan. New 2 blade fans are out of stock.

    Oil Filter

If a car putts around town at less than 40 mph and gets it's oil changed every 500 to 1000 miles, a filter would be optional. Inserted bearings are designed to be run with tighter tolerances for higher performance applications but are also less tolerances of dirty oil.

    Backfire and stop running

Are bushings around throttle plate shaft worn? Are needle valve seats in carb in good shape? Basically; does your carburetor need rebuilding?

    Aries Stainless Steel Muffler

Can you comment on the sound/noise level of the performance muffler; does the reduced back pressure offer a noticeable improvement in performance? TIA, Tom

Is a lightened flywheel overrated? (I think so)

With a 60 lb flywheel, non synchronous transmission and a well worn model A, I find waiting for the engine rpm to drop so I can complete a double clutch upshift to be painfully long; slowing down, losing momentum and frustrating drivers following me. Things to do this year: engine rebuild...

Does your Coupe have a Trunk or Rumble seat

Put lap seat belts in my coupe's rumble seat and quickly realized that the rumble seat is not a safe place for passengers. In a collision (with seat belts), the rumble occupant will be thrown forward into either the coupe's rear window or shorter people will smack the edge of the of rumble seat...

    Mystery: Tie-Rod Shock Absorber

I rebuilt the entire steering linkage on my A about one year ago. New kingpins and bushings, replaced the steering arms with renewed balls, replaced the tie rod ball with a new round one and rebuilt the ball joints of the tie rod and drag link. Prior to the rebuild, the car wandered all over...

    F150 ****** with overdrive

V8COOPMAN, thank you for your reply. Your link to the T5 conversion with torque tube is quite helpful.

    F150 ****** with overdrive

Since the Mitchel trans and OD unit have lifetime waits, I have been reading old posts regarding other transmission swaps. The comments about the T5 having a too low 1st and a minimal OD ratio makes me wonder about the differential gears. Are these comments based on a 3.78 rear end? Would a...
