    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. Well, I put in the 10” clutch and it shifted and moved in 1st and Reverse, so I am thinking, problem solved. I also found that the throw out bearing collar was sloppy on the shaft, possible that was binding. The 11” clutch was very hard to push the pedal...

Re: I think I found the problem but…. Hopefully, I will have an answer next week, thanks for all the posts.

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. That part number put me on that trail. I could not find a part number on the PP.

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. I believe I just ordered the wrong clutch, when I looked it up(this time) the clutch I ordered was clearly marked “Trucks”. The one I should have ordered matches the original number in my Mercury parts book. A 51A-7550 Disc with a 19A-7563 Pressure Plate...

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. There were no grinding or noises of any kind when shifting, or when wheels turned(when rear end was jacked up). I had to drop the bottom of the pan to get the clutch out, I have not removed the flywheel. Will definitely check make sure the flywheel is...

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. I get where you are coming from but until I have the correct clutch assembly, it is difficult to move on to figure out what is going on. I should never have ordered the clutch in the first place, did it as a favor to my rebuilders, now I get to fix it...

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. If the specs I saw were correct, the disc for the 10” was 1/2” thinner than the 11” and the pressure plate is 1/4” thicker. I will know for sure Tuesday.

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. I maybe misstated but the driveshaft and rear axles seem to be working as they should. I have a 10” clutch coming Tuesday, pretty sure I will have to get new mounting holes machined, but I just want to be sure. Working on this car is above my knowledge...

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. Well, I ordered the wrong clutch for the engine rebuilders. In my weak defense it was the correct year but for trucks. I just messed up, so it’s been mostly self inflicted errors and me being a uTube mechanic……my impatience in this project doesn’t serve me...

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. Well the difference in the thicknesses of the disc and plate, I am hoping is the problem. But I do have my fingers crossed.

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. You were correct, no holes for a 10” clutch. I just have to decide whether to have it drilled or buy another. I was able to remove the clutch by loosening all pan bolts, removing starter, and loosening exhaust crossover pipe.

Re: This site can’t be reached Yes, I posted twice, didn’t think either went through.

    I think I found the problem but….

Re: I think I found the problem but…. So the flywheel would have been acquired to match the clutch in the engine rebuild? Correct? So the engine must come out then, probably.

    I think I found the problem but….

I think I found the problem but…. Started the thread about the 1947mercury not moving. I believe I have located the problem, I ordered the wrong clutch and it got installed 11” vs 10”. I need to remove the clutch, can the oil pan be dropped 1 1/2 or 2 inches so I can get at the bolts to...
