    Stubborn Starter Drive

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I am sure the bendix was not extended since I don't think it could be installed unless compressed due to the zero clearance with the starter mounting plate. This is the third one I have installed and all were very difficult even following the sellers...

    Stubborn Starter Drive

My 49 F-1 starter was dragging badly so I removed it and had it rebuilt. I was using the newer style bendix from D. Carpenter and had a devil of a time getting it out although I had previously notched the end of the bendix as instructed to get it past the flywheel. Just to be safe, I installed...

    49 F 1 Cowl Vent Seatant

Please tell me what sealant you have had success with for the cowl vent. I tried the gooey black windshield sealant and made a proper mess. Had to remove it, clean it all off of vent , hood, cowl, me and everything I touched. I was reminded of the Tar baby story. Picking up a new gasket...

Wheels are back from the powder coater

To remove hubcap without scratching rim, I made a tapered wedge (about 1" to nothing) from a 3/4 " walnut board. It is about 6" long and can be tapped in between hubcap and wheel without scratching rim.

    Radiator cleaning

In my Dad's radiator repair shop back in the 60's-70's we soaked radiators in a hot solution of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) for 2 or 3 hours and then flushed them out with water/compressed air. This cleaned everything but rust/scale lodged in the tubes. That required removing tanks and...

    Coker radial wide whites

I had a similar problem with 15" Coker wide ww radials. Three were great and needed about 1 to 1.5 oz. to balance but one was way out of balance requiring 5.5 oz. I checked radial and lateral runout and talked to coker rep who agreed tire was out of spec and sent me another tire and had the...

    Ford F-1 brakes

V-8 Bob, sorry if I disturbed or offended you, and I didn't realize I was mocking anyone. I am all for modern, safer dual brake systems as well as seat belts, air bags and other modern safety equipment that I have on my other MODERN vehicles. My 49 F1 is as close to original as I can reasonably...

    Ford F-1 brakes

Not safe to use single master cylinder??? Come on now, you're trying to fix something that just ain't broke. Entire brake system on my 49 F1 is stock but has been completely reworked. I'm not the least bit hesitant to drive in stop and go or interstate traffic any time as it performs very...

    Engine knocking

Here was the source of a strange sound in my 49 F1. The breather tube was loose and clanging around.

    Radial tires and new wheels

Look at Wheel Vintique website. I bought mine through summit racing. They come with excellent powder coating primer ready to paint.
