    Burtz gas milage

We have just done 2,400 miles getting to our National Rally. Average over that distance was 28 mpg (proper gallon). Mine has a cam I specified from the grinder - basically a modified B cam, 6:1 head and Webber carb. We cruised at 75-80 mph.

Ford Model A and T Gauges

Over here, ammeters were made by Wilson’s who now make HUGE trnsformers for wind farms. They were branded “Wilsonia”

What cool item have you made from Model A parts?

I made another car out of some of my bits. Driven it for thousands of miles.

    trip away in our A

I write that "buzz box". Spelling varies and there is no right nor wrong. You won't find it in any dictionary but every Australian knows what it is. It is a small, usually Japanese car with a high revving engine that makes a buzzing sound as it goes down the road.

    Battery Shut-Off

If your car is positive earth per Henry's design (ground to you guys), that is the best place for the isolating switch, IMO and NOTHING will work when it is in the OFF position.

Lawrie, We don't leave until Wednesday and plan on arriving in Albany the day before the rally starts. We will be doing some sightseeing on theway even though we have driven that road before in our A as you know. When are you expecting to get there.

Radius Rod...use the rubber ball or not

Years ago, I tried one of those washers and by the time I got to the end of my driveway, it had migrated to the under side of the ball so I added a tack of weld to hold it. No good! I ended up building up the worn ball with weld and shaping it fairly accurately back to the intended 1 1/2 inch...

    Tick/Tap

Could it be pistron slap in number 4 pot or what you guys call the wrist pin? Every engine I have built/rebuilt has had an aluminium timing gear put in it. NO issues.

He said it was about 31°C (88°F) so I doubt he will lbe using side curtains. The hole in the windscreen is probably enough ventilation!! BTW, even though we in Australia are on the opposite side of the world from the fighting in WW!, on a percapita basis, we lost more men than any other country...

    Reviving the Hobby

Attracting younger emembers is a world wide problem not only for car clubs but any volunteer organisation. IMO, people these days are too focussed on their own tiny world and can't be bothered even looking outside it. One of the clubs to which I belong (all brands and models focussing on the...

Still Worried About the Antique Car Hobby Being Dead or Dying??

IMO, further evidence that people are turning away from cars as old as ours is the utter contempt many drivers of modern cars show us on the roads. I've even had comments like "That car shouldn't be on the road." I'm afraid we are at the tail end of our period. How many people these days collect...

    Building Burtz block

Not much luck needed IMO, just allow plenty of time to check everything - twice. BTW, Good luck helps so Good luck!

    trip away in our A

Lawrie, We don't leave till next Wednesday. Our first day is about 440 km (275 miles to those who use the old measurements) to Ouyen in a convoy of 5 cars. IMO, that is a good number - plenty of peole and cars but not difficult to manage. Your photos make me wish we were already on the road...
