    1953 Mercury Power steering Cylinder

Hi Folks, I'm adding power steering to my 1953 Monterey and I have found almost all original parts. The power cylinder has small leak so I was thinking to buy another one. Rockauto has two types. Lares 30 has external tube, like mine, but is only Remanufactured and the core is a problem for...

    53 Mercury p/s conversion

This is probably a stupid question and maybe I'm missing something: why hasn't anyone thought of adapting the RAM system from another, more common car (Mustang?) to the 1950s Fomoco? Wouldn't it be easier? Is not possible to make a kit for that purpose?

Does anybody know why they do not recommend this kit with original flathead? Where is the problem? Thanks

    1953 Mercomatic rebuilding info

Hi Folks, here some news about my Merc O Matic. We rebuilt it and it seems going good now. Seals were very bad and we found also the torque converter hub was broken. Fortunally Fatsco had it new. It was probably opened in the recent past (there was some black sealant) and that was when the...

    1953 Mercomatic rebuilding info

There is no big news for now, the mechanic I found and spoke to, asked me to wait until February, because it is the period of the year when it is quieter and with less work. In the meantime, even though we are in the bad season and it is very cold, I am doing some tests with the adjustment...

    1953 Mercomatic rebuilding info

Roy, you are right. Here what is doing my trasmission: When cold (I mean when started after sitting a day at least) and putting in Drive I can feel the trasmissiion engaging but there is low traction. I mean the car does move at low rpm ( and accelerating very, very slowly), but transmission...

    1953 Mercomatic rebuilding info

Hi Folks, soon I will have to rebuild the automatic transmission fordomatic of my 1953 Mercury. Unfortunately I live in Italy and it will not be easy to find someone with the knowledge to do a good job. Also not knowing if the new front band will be needed, and considering that even in the USA...

    1953 ford radiator on Mercury

For anyone who might be interested, the aluminum radiator for the 49/51 Fords can be fitted to a 53 Mercury, you just need to work a little on the height.

    1953 ford radiator on Mercury

Thank you. I took dimensions of aluminium that are for sale and seems to be the same. I'm going to try as I found a good price 3 rows. I undestand the original would be better to view, but italian rebuilders are very expensive and the result is not worth the expense. In Milano we can reach...
